Anyway, after finding out about the capability of the Azura's Star as a Soul Gem, I began to use it frequently to capture souls, since now i was able to kill monsters that i was only capable of doing with a lot of strategy, mainly because i was using my weapon charged non-stopped. Anyway, while fighting inside the Oblivion Gate near Leysomething, after a while, whenever i tried to capture a soul, it said that i didn't have a soul gem big enough, and that with my Azura's Star empty in my backpack, can anyone explain to me if there is a daily or global limit or something else? like a bug. I tried dropping it and picking it up again, but it didn't work.
Just summon anything daedric. They're pretty much all grand. Do it in a city and the guards will help you kill it.
Lichs work really well too. Relatively easy to kill with a melee character and they're Grand. Just have to either do it within 20 seconds or make your own spell to summon one, which can cost upwards of 200-250 mana.
Will it destroy the soul gem? And have you tested this? I would think the script would work it so it wouldnt work. I could be wrong though.
Well I haven't tried it but we always could I guess. Save game before hand of course. Go to, what was the name, Dark Fissure (south - southeast of Cheydinhal at the begining of the river there)? Wait for that particular night, put Azura's star in the altar, cast Soul Trap on it and then we'll see. I don't know to be honest if it'll work. I'll try it when I get back home and let you know if it works if you can wait.
I'd add a caveat to that. No personal knowledge involved, though. Black soul gems are the province of Necromancers. I wonder if the Mages Guild would approve. Being Arch-Mage, I'm a little loathe to try it myself, but I suppose I'll have to. The only time I've used one, it was at the Arch-Mages direct request just before I became the Arch-Mage, but I presume that was an exception to the general rule.
Okies, tried it and this is how it turned out - it works perfectly fine when it comes to ordinary soul gems, no matter what 'size' they are but apparently it does not work with Azura's. It probably has some 'inbuilt protection' due to who it's from and all that. So if you need black soul gems you can make them yourself but for me Azura didn't work.
Another small caveat: converting soul gems to black ones will work only if the starting gem is empty.
SPOILER: I've checked, and black soul gems can trap humaniods. Quite powerful souls, too. Worth the trip to the outback. Next time I'm going to try for a handful of them.
