    Hello,

I have the G3 tweaks mod installed, which allows katanas to be turned into 2-handed weapons. Aesthetically speaking, holding a katana with only one hand doesn't really makes sense to me... and dual-wielding katanas could give me cancer.

However, I am wondering about the usefulness of the 2-handed weapon proficiency. 2-handed katanas are identical to their 1-handed counterpart, but their weapon proficiency only gives weapon speed, while the single weapon proficiency gives AC. (Both of them grant a critical hit on a 19 roll, so I didn't mention it.)

It would seem very strange, but, stats-wise, isn't the 1-handed version the better ?

The thing about single weapon style is that the extra 2 AC can be equaled or improved upon by almost any shield, which leaves the small extra critical hit chance as the only real reason to take it. AC is frankly not much more noticeable than speed factor against many high level enemies in my experience, anyway. Most of the really dangerous stuff e.g. liches of all sorts, fire-breathing dragons, wizards in general, greater demons with auras of stun, fear, and more THAC0 than will ever be matched by your AC, etc. simply do not care whether your AC is -4 or -6. It has to go very low to be remotely noticeable in a fight, and then only against those enemies who actually do most of their damage in melee. I suppose it might make a difference against lesser threats like golems.

In any case, using a katana in one hand might be better than using it in two statistically speaking, but not enough to really be an issue.

Let me introduce to you the most celebrated Kensei ever, one who was actually named as such after his death (Kensei means "Sword Saint"), and the inventor of Niten Ichi 二天一.
