How do you know which points you spend help your character? Discovery?

    So what about skills. I played the CE and when you had too little skill in an armor you got a penalty. So you knew the target level to increase.

    I know nobody knows this yet, but I thought a good discoveries thread was in order.

    Classes don't have any attribute or skill requirements. I have yet to see any equipment with attribute or skill-rank requirements. So it looks like the only reason to advance a skill is for the benefit it gives you.

    Moron has posted some skill information in the Early Information thread. Magic skills increase spell damage. Scout helps you to 20 (but you probably only need about 5). Repair allows you to repair more.

    Yeh, but blast it, I don't like the fact that in MMXII you can only repair while trading with someone. Or am I overlooking something? Also, when you first pick up something it shows unidentified, but in inventory it's already identified. I do have a healthy identify level though.

    Identify is useless: I have never put a point in it, and everything is automatically ID'd.
    Repair increases the number of times/amount repaired with a Repair kit. They're rare drops and sold in stores, but only 1/store. Boooh! Hiss!
    Armour doesn't do anything, except for Rank 1 granting the ability to wear the armour.
    Weapons need only 1 point to equip, but more points add to the Parry Rating and/or Strike Rating. The level raises by use of the weapon.
    Scribe is broken.
    Bash is incredibly useful if you aren't a Rogue.
    Shield is useless.

    I think shield is 1 pt. My rogue can't equip a shield. I expect if I was rogue/mage that I would never have the shield option? Geussing that fighter adept get the skill.

    Do you have any idea where we should 'dump' all our skillpoints. I've raised: nether, sword (parry like you say), parry, locks, traps, inspect. Oh and bargain. Not sure where the dump skill would be. It really makes a challenge to have 2/3 of skills 1 pt wonders without much info to guide. The manual has a copy of CE stuff rather than new stuff.

    Don't raise weapons with skillpoints! They raise naturally from use!
    I'd dump points in Nether, and save some. Your coming classes will open new skills.

    You're guaranteed to end up with two magic skills. I'd keep those maxed out and then distribute the other points where it seems useful. You won't keep a weapon skill maxed even if you only use one weapon, so weapon skills could use leftover points. I haven't seen the new Tier 3 skills yet, but that's another place you might want to drop some points.

    Is anybody really buying much of anything? I haven't put any points in bargain yet.

    I haven't bought THAT much. There simply isn't much to buy.

    So do you need to buy ketals, books, and crystals? I was unsure about that?

    You might need to buy some ketals. We'll have to wait for the nether magic people to report their findings.

    But it doesn't look like there's any reason to buy spells. You automatically learn spells as you level, and you can only have one copy of each spell. When my fighter (who knows rune magic) finds a rune spell, it simply disappears.

    Buying spells is useful if you aren't a Mage or Adept, as they're the only ones that get spells naturally, IIRC, by leveling. Fighters & Rogues get access to Rune & Nether respectively, as do Adepts & Mages, but they have to find/buy the spells.

    Fighters get spells automatically. I was assuming that's how it works for everybody. Maybe there's something iffy going on if it's your second class?

    Mage was my second class, and I didn't get any spells automatically from that. I think I got the Fighter/Rogue part from the interview, apparently I was wrong.
    Looks like only primary classes get spells automatically?

    BTW, Fighters & Rogues only have access to Rune & Nether, right?

    How do you learn your second classes spells? Books/crystals etc?

    An aside: if you have 10 magic missile books is there a difference from having only 1 magic missile book? Ketals, stones, crystals too?

    Yes, you buy/find your second class magic, or your class' secundary magic.
    I haven't noticed any difference with several copies of a spell. They just disappear if you have the spell already.

    Hmm so you cannot sell them I take it? I found some use for money. You can buy scrolls and frenzy potions. I haven't tried the cooldown on scrolls or if you can use a magic which you have no class eg mage/fighter scroll of divine intervention. And with that in mind I haven't tested if you can sell x item and then make that appear in the inventory eg sell a frenzy potion to arms of argus and then buy back.

    If all of those things are true then bargain is very good.

    You can't sell excess copies. Sell & buyback does NOT work, sadly. It would solve the stupid equipment degradation.

    What's more you cannot buy a 2nd class scroll and then learn the spell. You have to find it. For example my rogue/adept took rogue first. I bought some star crystals and they never appeared in my inventory!

    Text in red is wrong information. I did learn the star crystals, it just didn't go into my inventory in the interum. Is there a way to get more hotkeys?

    The merchant (tested with the celestial order in fargrove) has a repair symbol in their sales menu at the bottom left. Hit C to bring up your gear AND the sales window and then drag and point the repair icon from the sales menu.

    You can also use a repair kit from inventory: rightclick on the kit, then left click on the gear, rightclick again on the kit to get rid of the repaircursor. Sadly, Repair kits do not restock.
    Gear at 0 durability does not disappear, though.

    How do you use a bow? I try to use Q but it doesn't work if: dual wield, sword and board, onehanded, or no weapon. I can't drop a bow into the main slot.
