    Hello everyone, I've just started Baldur's Gate after starting Baldur's Gate 2 first, I really like the second game but I felt a bit detached from the characters and a bit lost in the story so I decided to get, and go through the first game before continuing BG2, plus I like the idea of importing my character from the first game, continuity rocks!

    Anyway, the problem is Baldur's Gate 1 crashes periodically. I'm running both games (from GOG) through Wineskin on my macbook pro. I've only recently started trying to learn more about computers, software and the mojo sorcery that makes them work, so I don't really know how to fix this problem, especially when I look at the backtrace when the game crashes. It's totally alien to me. So if anyone who knows how to fix this can help me that would be fantastic.

    The details from the crash are too long for me to post. I could send them to anyone willing to help.

    Let me know if there's any other information I can give that will help. I do not have any mods installed, the game is just the normal version found on GOG. Thanks in advance!

    That's a problem you should take up with GOG, they deliver that game in an easy to run format to you, it should work right out the (download) box. If it doesn't, I think you have more right to yell at someone than people like me, who bought this game on CD-rom many years ago and are running it with many patches and mods installed.

    Wait, I just read up on what Wineskin actually is, and it looks to me like this could be the problem. I doubt GOG.com checks its Windows releases on mac systems. Their support for this is probably minimal, as well. I think it's very likely a problem with Wineskin itself. Perhaps it lost the ability to run this game since its latest update.

    First of all what operating system are you running? I know for a fact Vista and Windows 7 have had these issues having went through it on my windows 7 myself. I had to download a compatability patch for windows 7.

    Since he uses macbook and runs BG in wineskin, I'm fairly certain he runs some version of osX.

    @dradam
    First thing I'd try is switching all options to software rendering (shadows, mirroring, transparency etc. - I must admit i don't remember if vanilla BG1 even has options for these things).

    IF You have less problems running BG2, I'd also recommend trying out BGtutu. it basically makes BG run on BG2 engine (so it looks nicer, offers more class options, and could potentially circumvent problems You're having with vanilla BG1.

    If all else fails: Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition will be coming out in exactly two weeks, and will officially support MacOS (as well as iPad and Android) - but You'll have to buy the game again.

    edit:
    apologies for arriving to the party veeeeeeeery late.
