Skinning??? (possible spoiler)

I am currently in middle of chapter II, and have noticed many times when I search dead creatures, a message will pop up "skinning item available" or something like that...I read on one of the threads that this was a "free skill" somewhere at the beginning of the game...did I miss it somewhere (?) and how can I obtain it? Thx for your help.

You should buy books about monsters and read them. Only then will you be able to retrieve rare ingredients.

Any idea which book in particular? I thought I had purchased all of them from book seller in town in Chapter II...

When you see the message "Skinning Item Available," that means one of the items you found on the creature is only there because you read up on the creature. That is, it's a good message, so you're probably doing fine.
