It is just a hint - to nudge you toward the idea that something isn't right here, something is not what it seems. At least that is the Designers' Plan. The players are supposed to become intrigued, here. Some players become intrigued alright and start digging for more clues. They click on the ground, click on the doghouse, click on the dog etc. Nothing. So, the players say, "Screw it!"
Actually, the answer is "revealed" in the end of chapter 1 - and we will never know
how Geralt guessed the right answer.
