Why do so many people hate Oblivion?

I noticed reading the boards around GB that Oblivion isn't exactly the most popular game around here.
Before I run off the buy it, I wanted to ask people who have played it what makes it apparently so much worse than Morrowind and plain dissapointing in general?

Thanks in advance!

I think it's because you can't roleplay in the game. Also it's to much combat and with the levelsystem to hard! In morrowind i used to read every book I came across, but in oblivion I just didn't feel like reading it. Also the compass that directs you to your quest is very annoying, but then again you can ignore it. Don't get me wrong, I like playing the game if you stay low in level. I mean visually it's great and the quest are most of the time more contructed. The guilds are much cooler but not as much at war with each other.
If you ask me, lend it from someone and see if it's your style...

I really do not see why anyone should not like this game. It is extremely well made and quite unique in its genre. The dialogue and the storyline are not nearly as well written as those of older RPGs, such as Baldur's Gate I and II. Maybe that is why people here are so sceptical about it. But it is quite an experience in itself, if with greater focus on the visual atmosphere. And, yes, the combat is very hard, but on the other hand, that of Morrowind was way too easy.

We already have a thread about the many issues many people have with Oblivion--you can find it here. Feel free to post in it, if you have a problem with the game. There's also a thread in this forum comparing Oblivion to Morrowind, as well.

Since the site owner doesn't want duplicative threads in any forum, this one's closed.
