No textures?

Sooooo... I loaded up the game this afternoon, and everything was looking pretty sick. I got kinda worried when the game crashed if I tried to change the visual settings, but they were more or less to my liking anyways, so I didn't really care. When the starting cinematic goes, I was all like "whoah, this is gonna be sweet", but the second it was over with, and the character selection went on, something took a turn for the worse. I don't know why, but nothing on screen had any textures: it was all white, including my character face tweaker thingy (except the eyes, which were all rainbow-y) Does anyone know what the problem is, or how to fix it? I checked my video card, and although it wasn't on the list, it has supported other next-gen games in the past (Half-life 2, Doom 3, Empire at War, you know, recent stuff). Also, I figure that since it ran the first cinematic no prob/no lag, it might not be my graphics card. Can anyone lend a hand?

It might help if you posted your RAM and video card.

Well, my video card is NVIDIA GeForce Ti 4200 with AGP8X, and I have 510MB's of RAM. While I have no idea how good that actually is, it's not failed me until today.

I've seen some problems reported with GeForce cards, but you're best off posting about it here. You do have the latest drivers downloaded and installed, right?

Uhhhh..... probably Anyways, I'll take a look at that, and look around for some new drivers too.

So...... those forums talk about the whiteout thing, as well as that problem I had when I tried reinstalling, so I'm assuming these are widespread errors. The forums don't actually give any solutions, but I'm sure if enough people complain about it, Bethesda will do somethin about it

I just checked the supported video cards in the readme file:

-Supported Video Card Chipsets:
ATI X1900 series
ATI X1800 series
ATI X1600 series
ATI X1300 series
ATI X850 series
ATI x800 series
ATI x700 series
ATI x600 series
ATI Radeon 9800 series
ATI Radeon 9700 series
ATI Radeon 9600 series
ATI Radeon 9500 series
NVIDIA Geforce 7800 series
NVIDIA GeForce 6800 series
NVIDIA GeForce 6600 series
NVIDIA GeForce 6200 series
NVIDIA GeForce FX series

I don't see yours in there. Tech support can probably tell you if it's coming in a patch, however.

Fable,

I heard that at least one card maker was going to make a driver update specifically for Oblivion. I have an Radeon9600 series. Do you know if this is true, or even possible?

I'm loving this game when it runs smoothly. However, I often lag. I also have a flickering sword, sword arm, and magic arm when out of doors. I've got 512 ram, but am upgrading to 1 gb next week. My processor is a Pentium M 1.6 (laptop obviously), which is pretty much equivilent to a p4. Its low end specs I know but...

Thanks

That's why you're chugging along--not the video card (which is also what I use). Get thou a new CPU, and pump up that RAM to 1 GB!

@Alien_Newborn: Your graphics card does not support Oblivion, and Bethesda cannot do anything about it, no more than they can make Morrowind have Oblivion-level graphics.

@Frodo1: The RAM is dangerously low; you'll need at least 1GB. I doubt a Mobility Radeon 9600 would do very well in Oblivion, so your best bet is simply to turn everything to minimum.

@Fable: That Pentium-M 1.6GHz matches your CPU in performance. After all, a Sempron 3100+ clocks only at 1.8GHz.

That was a bit harsh..... I suppose it's about time I get some new graphic card. I mean, this one was kinda old when I got the computer, and that was a year and a bit ago.

Not sure I know what you mean, since I already know what you said, and I'm not running a Sempron 3100+.

My memory arrives on Tuesday. Is 1 gig enough. SHould I spend the extra money and go higher? My system max is 2 gig.

I can afford a pentium m 2.0 right now if I stay with 1 gig ram. Will that be enough too?

Thanks for the help guys.

Ironic isn't it. I was waiting and waiting for last Tuesday afternoon and now I am waiting and waiting for next Tuesday

1 Gb is enough, don't worry about it, I run it smoothly with that much RAM. So sure upgrade the CPU I say, that would be a better move. I am not too keen on Intel so will not comment on that

No need to change the CPU. The RAM is the only thing you can upgrade that would actually result in a good performance increase.
