houses (spoiler)

I bought the Skingrad house and by accident discovered you could actually get someone to use the servant's quarters. Does this go for the other cities as well, is there always someone looking to join you as soon as you buy a house? I know they don't all have servant's quarters or even a second bed, but I didn't stumble upon one looking for a 'master' in Chorrol (so far the only other place I bought a house).

Now that's interesting. My house in Chorral has two extra beds in the servants quarters. I didn't know you could get someone to move in. Do you hire them as servants? Did you just find this out by talking to various townsfolk?

As far as I know the only house where you can have a maid is the one in Skingrad. Considering you got the maid - who was standing right next to the guy selling you add-ons - in the same place, the surest way to check would be to look around the shop in Chorrol - ie that would probably be the daughter you saved, ie then I don't think it's likely.

Oh, I'll have to check that out. She is one of my favorite NPC's.

I had heard mention that there is also a Butler available in Skingrad? I found the Maid, but no Butler.

Cuiriusly, when I goit the maid, it game me a "closed quest" note - but I don't remember ever getting a "new quest" note for that. Seems like I must have missed something.

Well buying the house itself is a quest, and for me it ended when I got a maid. As for the butler, I think that's actually the Orc NPC who's the butler over at the castle, connected to some quests. You can only have the maid.

Just a thought, but could the maid thing be gender related? For instance, if you play a man, you'll get a maid, play a woman, you'll get a butler?

Oh....apparently I never got the quest to buy the house. I just bought the house because I wanted a house in every city.

How do you get the quest for buying the house?

Every house gives you a brief quest. You ask the appropriate person in each city to "buy a house in town", and if you cough up the gold, the quest adds to your active quests. Usually, in order to complete the quest, you just buy all the relevant house fixin's from the local general merchant. Once you buy the last one, the quest finishes.

For the Skingrad mansion: I don't recall the maid being part of the house quest. I was running along down the street near my Skingrad home, when a passerby NPC said "Excuse me?". I'd never heard anyone say that before, so I stopped and went back to her. When I spoke to her, she said that she heard I'd just bought the place and did I need a maid? After I hired her, I talked to her a few times, but no other quests came out of it. She does give you a shepperd's pie and beer whenever you ask, but that's about it.
