Ok well, I searched the Forums, using key words raids and favorite raids n such.. but could not find a thing. I'm posting this to have an idea of where peoples more preferred places to clean out and make a hefty piece of coin. So lets begin shall we? =]

Easy to overlook because it's the first place a lot of people visit as soon as they exit the Imperial Sewers at the start of the game, but the bandits in Vilverin respawn every three days. Not much in the way of magic items, but the bandits always wear light armour of some type, and even leather armour has a favorable value-to-weight ratio at low levels. At high levels many of them will be wearing glass armour, which has a better value-to-weight ratio than almost anything else in the game. Also, the layout's perfect for a lightning-quick smash and grab raid if you stick to the first level.

Well thought I'd answer my own question, My favorite place to raid would have to be Vilverin like you said, and Fort Woodhand, If I raid both places, I'm bound to leave a hefty amount of loot.

Fort Woodhand is a little easier to get around in my opinion and I just enjoy killing all the Marauders in there. =P

a good place, not sure of name, but its part of A mission where you have to go get this mace for this orc but you find out that its a trap and there are hunters in the ruin, they usually have good stuff, i dought you can get in without the mission. And its located in bravil( not ruin but mission)

I'm kind of partial to Alieyid ruins (or however the heck you spell it), on the off chance I'll find a Varla stone or two. Always makes the hunt worth while. Of course, the Oblivion gates were worth it for the sigil stones at the end. But I'd have to agree about the underground sewers at Imperial City - found a couple nice rings in there first time through, including the Ring of War, which hasn't been off my finger since.

There's a cave up north that opens up into a big cavern that segue's into a cool underground fort. Don't remember the name, but I'll have to go find it again. Really cool.

I used to wear Fin Gleam to raid, for the night eye effect, but really, it kind of robs the game of it's cool visual style to cast everything in an equal shade of blue. True, it makes seeing baddies and loot boxes much easier, but it kind of diminishes the immersion. I prefer using a torch, but when you switch to a weapon, you have to fight in the dark! I've taken lately to casting a "light" spell as I nose around, but I find it hard to believe that I could effectively sneak around while glowing like a light bulb. Kind of kills the immersion as well, in it's own way.

What is your preferred method of seeing well underground? Is there another way I haven't thought of or discovered yet?

I always add light to my short duration (on hotkey) shield or element(s) shield spell. I make a custom one and add some light component. Then after a fight I usually have some radiance left where I spot the loot.

But I creep up to them in darkness...gut one and then cast my 'ward of lights' spell.

But to stay with the thread I have limited experience with what is the best ruins but I have had good luck ducking in whatever is closest at hand. Saves the legs. I have found good items from bandits strongholds because they are wearing the items! check oblivion wiki for which strongholds are bandits (or vampires).

When I don't have a quest of imperative priority (which is actually quite often) I try to freely explore.

Cool

Later on at higher lvls oblivion gate can be extremely worth while. I found my amulet of reflection in one for my pc along with several water breathing/walking rings that I picked up from daedra mages.

I usually favor Necromancers lairs because of the Apparatus' you can find and plenty of potions which all have strong value to weight ratios. Also I'm extremely partial to vampire lairs as you can get lots and lots of valuable magic weapons and armor.

vampire lairs scare me, and so do the undead...

but i have to say i just LOVE raiding houses, any house.
i get this sick thrill from sneaking around their house at night, or cleaning up their whole house before they get back.
something about it makes me so happy.

Cool

What is there in the imperial sewers, all i ever found was that place for the main quest (by the way, the books that you have to find for the main quest sell for between 40 and 120).
