Dark Brotherhood quest problems.(Spoilers)

Im currently trying to do the Permanent Retirement quest for the dark brotherhood, where you have to kill Adamus Phillida. I waited until he was swimming with no armour on and then nailed him with the Rose of Sithis, which is the arrow I got given which would apparently kill him instantly. It dosent. Ive tried over and over to kill him with the arrow while he has to armour on, and all that happens is that he looses about 5 health and then charges at me with all his armour back on. Im playing the Xbox360 version, Im using a fine steel bow (I dont know if the bow you use matters) which I stole from a guard, and Ive tried shooting him right up close so it definetly got him. Nothing seems to be working. Anyone have any ideas?

And by the way, so far with this character I havent been doing much combat at all, why kill them when you can just sneak round them >_>? So just walking up to him and attacking him isnt going to work for me. (Tried it allready, bad results).

It sounds like you found a glitch. I don't know how to bypass it on the XBOX. It might be possible to work around if you restore from an earlier save and try again.

I deleted them

. It looks like im just going to have to wait until Im more skilled in combat and then kill him without the arrow.

he sleeps in one of the guard towers... you can use an invislibility spell and get to him, shoot him and run out... it helps if you are rich and in the thieves guild bcause you can pay off the money you owe for the murder withough going to jail.

same thing happened with me with my non archer character. I couldnt' kill him with the arrow. I ended up just sneaking up to him and bashing him with a sword.
But, with my archer character i was able to kill him...
so my thoughts would be the arrow is not necessarily a one hit kill, as it says it is, but simply is a powerful arrow maybe?
Or it could just be a simple glitch.

did u listen to what the quest giver said? the arrows enchantment works once and ONLY once. meaning if u had shot anything before u got admius(watever the hell u spell his name) the enchantment is gone and used on that...

I don't know about him but i never used it before. i tried loading a earlier save and it still didnt work.
i would say it is a glitch that is a rare occurence.

I managed to kill him

. I put on all my best armour (Mithril I pickpocketed off some nobleman), equipped my best bow and arrows (Shadowhunt and some elven arrows) then I waited until he took of his armour and got him with a sneak attack. The attack didnt kill him through, and I had to jump from roof to roof of of two houses while shooting at him, while also avoiding the arrows of about 10 guards who had gathered round...But I did it. Im now the Listener of the Dark brotherhood and Im starting to get a lot tougher because Ive moved on to doing fighters guild quests (I still have to run like a sissy from mountain lions though...)

For anyone else who cant kill him, you can kill him at around noon. Just about everyday he goes to that small pond nearest to the castle and takes a bath I assume. Thats when I've always gone for him, No armor and if you do it right, no gaurds will see( He has 2 gaurds with him, but they stay up on the street).
