Umbra isn't trapping souls

I got the Umbra sword and it's supposed to cast Soultrap on use, but it doesn't seem to be doing it in the same way that my old Soul Drinker dagger did. What am i doing wrong?

Soul Drinker casts soul trap on hit not use. For Umbra you have to use it to cast the spell just as you would with an amulet or a scroll
