Ticked-Off Sul-Matuul

I have permission from Zabamund to enter Sul-Matuul's yurt in the Ashlander camp. But, he keeps attacking me when I enter. I don't want to kill him because he is essential. So, is there any way to make him like me again? Is there someone to talk to, should I wait and come back to him so he'll "cool off?" Once NPC's are mad, is that final?

Please help. I don't want to have to restart.

The only thing that comes to mind is to hit him with a calm spell - should drop him right out of combat mode. From there maybe you can bribe him to make him happy with you
