As we all know, Morrowind is truly vast. In order to do everything in the game, the player must either spend a lot of time with a single character, or run several charaters simultaneously. Alternatively, there is always the option of "serial monogamy," which is to say playing with a particular character to complete the main quest, while joining one or more factions, and then beginning again with an entirely different character

Which do you prefer?

Serial for me.. I just started an Argonian Acrobat the other day.. I dont know why Im wandering around in Mournhold slaughtering Ordinators.

My playing style is probably more 'adulterous' in nature
I will play with just one character until they are fairly powerful.Then I begin to get curious about what a different character might be like and I want to experience that thrill of novelty and danger (because you are so weak at first) all over again...

So I will basically switch between them depending on my mood.
For example, my main character is a Breton Mage/Fighter at around level 30. She is now Arch Mage, and she has also completed all of the Imperial Cult quests (though she does not quite meet the requirements for top rank yet). I have done about a third of the Main quest, and I have yet to rise up through House Redoran.

Very recently I created a Dark Elf Assasin/Thief/Mage sort of character. I'm thinking that in addition to joining the Thieve's Guild, she will work for the Morag Tong and become a member of House Telvanni. As opposed to the above "good" character, this one will be of a more chaotic neutral sort of alignment, good to play when I've had a bad day I'll have to see if I'm any good at killing for money though...

My character is one of funny origins. I first started playing a while ago, but as those of us with any kind of Se- Adult life, it is rather hard to just sit in one spot for more than an hour in a given time period. With a kid, a wife, a dog, and myself (whom I pay the least attention and give the least care to) I found it extreamly difficult advancing through the levels of Morrowind. Remember now, im on Xbox, I dont have things as good as you PCer's. Well the character I own now started out with a humorous little name I picked up from a television show I was watching with my kid (Code Name: Kids Next Door) and it is simply "Nigel" I thought to myself, "Why waste time thinking about a name when you know you're just gonna delete him in a week, Marc you dummy." Well then I stuck with the name, then I had the duty of picking my Race. My child devoutly insisted that I pick the Dark Elf, so after much persuasion (I told him I'd be a Dark Elf if he got me a glass of juice from the fridge, he complied and so did I) I chose Dark Elf. Then I mosey' on down to the Census office to speak with the fellow who has the amazingly sqeaky voice. I didnt really want to waste time creating a custom hybrid class of a little bit of everything in it, so I just looked at the list. Spellsword stole my interest and thus became my class. My sign was that of the Lady, just for that little bit of personality and endurance. Well I didnt really seriously play, just experimenting with Magicka and Enchanting. Finally I found the willpower to actually complete a game before my son took over the game system completely. Soon as I knew it, I was already level 20, and halfway done with the Main Quest. I thought to myself now, HMM! I wish I had picked a better name then Nigel. But all in all, besides the weird name and lack of custom class I am now satisfied with my Level 44 Dark Elf, Spellcaster Class who goes by the name of Nigel.

I always have two or three characters going at the same time. I do the same thing with books. And husbands. (hahaha, I so funnnny) I don't know what it is. Guess I just like variety. I won't have two of the same characters. F.E. I'll have one very high level mage Breton(well, originally a mage, but now she's just good at everything) and one little bit of everything Nord who I've just started, and one assassin-spear Argonian. Then I'll decide I really do hate the Argonian, so I'll start a new character and save over the lizard. My husband, on the other hand, sticks to one character and plays the life out of him. Then he'll feel bored and it won't occur to him to start fresh. So maybe us "polygamists" have the right idea after all....

I always end up creating a character, rising through the factions and houses that fit into the profile of whoever I'm playing, and become top dog in anything I do. Meanwhile, I'll go along with the main quest, usually picking up the random dude's skull in his tomb south of pelagiad right away so as to avoid the bug where Sharn maz-grurluduburdubidum in the balmora mage's guild disappears... (It's a b****)
Eventually I'll become the Nerevarine, and then I'll realize that I'm not actually the right guy for the job, and start over again with a new and exciting character! Like dragon wench said, the lust for something different wins through, and I start again. I have -never- bothered to finish the game, even though at one point I had gotten all the artifacts and was ready for the final showdown with Dagor Ur. I just left my super-warrior in red mountain & started over...

I think with my two latest characters (an unarmored high elf monk & a wood elf ranger) I've pretty much been there, done that... At least for the first 20 levels...

I thought i psoted on this forever ago... stupid computer... ok i am still on my very first character, but i have done pretty much everythign except those quests for the hosues i havnt joined. well i havent done hllalu yether because they suck, but i was jsut wondering, i am on top of the world, i know it would piss me off so bad to have 40 speed again and have to frigin inch across the world... een now with 300 speed (boots of blinding speed and resist magic, such a lovely combination) i feel like i am going to slow. is it worth it to climb back up to level 30 (minimum, im in late 60's now but hey a guy likes a little challenge) just so i can be a telvani guy? do they let you grow your own mushroom towers? lol... dont tell me i would want it to be a surprise.

The last time I played MW, I had two characters, and it looks like my next major entry (in about 1 week's time, as soon as a bunch of parts arrive and gets installed), there will be two, again. The main impetus is simply the wealth of mods out there, catering to different character types. Many are thief-oriented, so I will be running a thief with some mage secondary skills. (In fact, there's a whole new town mod that involves a fledgling thieves' guild which you can help set up, and which will automatically give you money per month based on the number of quests you've fulfilled to help 'em get going.) But I really like battlemages, so a mage with strong fighting skills will be played, as well.

Well first I started out with a Khajiit, and I did nearly all the quests for the fighter's guild, the morag tong, house hlaalu and the blades. Then I went into mournhold and stoped there. I then created a second char, this time a dark elf. And finished allt he quests for House Redoran, the Temple, The Empire, and the Empire's Cult. And then I created a last character, an orc-ess. Mostly... i do anything with her other than buy clothes and stuff.

JesterKing, are you on a PC, or an xbox? Because if you've got a PC--and with apologies in advance to Beornica--there are several mods that drastically improve the experience of rising to the top of a house or guild. The one that comes immediately to mind is Dracandros' Voice. It rewards the PC that rises to the top of any of these. For example, as Patriarch, you can command the Ordinators. As Telvanni Archmagister, you can send any member on a mission. You can practice combat with any soldier and Guard of the Imperial Legion as Knight of the Imperial Dragon. I always thought getting to the top seemed kind of flat in MW, but mods like Dracandros' reward you with some decently balanced abilities.

XBOX!!!!!! u guys are making me feel so sad about it... lol I got it as somehtign to hold me over until fable came out but now its an obsession... and these mods everyone 6talks about are insanely tempting... Dracandos reward sounds AWESOME!!!!! bossing around those rude ordinators... HA! and beornica, ur an inspiration to all of us poor deprived xboxers... lets see whos laughing when fable takes a few years to come out on xbox...

I take that back. I am a changed woman. I guess the only reason I played so many characters at once before was because I just hadn't found one I liked enough. I've had two other newer characters for about two months now, but I just want to play my awesome Eowyn... so, even though I've already voted, mark me down as monogamous. I've already completed mage's guild, thieves guild, Imperial ..shrine...thing, Morag Tong, and Telvanni. I want to see if I can just work my way up to the top of EVERYTHING. I want to do temple, (I have never even made it past the initial pilgrimages) legion, fighter's guild (I've never gone all the way up that, either) and... hm. I'm probably missing some. Ah well.

*grins* Well, I've been pretty faithful to my Breton mage, though there are days when playing a morally dubious assasin holds a certain appeal

I really like the idea of modelling a PC on Eowyn, she was one of my favourite LOTR characters (Her and Sam) because she combined strength, intelligence and vulnerability... she was so very human.
