Strength and blunt weapons

I know that strength effects your ability at melee combat, but I'm wondering by how much. In particular, I'm wondering if strength (as is the case with other games I've played) has any significant association with blunt weapons such as staffs.

The reason I ask is because I decided to specialise in blunt weapons this time around, and I'm finding my character's ability to pulverise something with a daedric staff is not much less than in the past when I have wielded a daedric claymore. Yet, a claymore is supposed to dish out significantly more damage.

note: I always begin the game with the difficulty level set at 50, and increase it by ten notches each time I level. I also try to have as many multipliers as possible, though that is more difficult now with using NOM. Indeed, I probably have fewer multipliers now (since NOM requires you to sleep)... so this doesn't make a huge amount of sense...

Hmm..

I can't think of anything in particular...

Try using the console and a relatively strong summon spell to compare the staff with the claymore with equal strength and skill...

Is it enchanted with a weakness to...<> spell?

What about birthsign?

That is all I can think of for now...

Well... I can't try a direct comparison just yet. Because I don't have a daedric claymore, and my skill in longsword is quite low. But, I will compare them directly when they are the same.

Nope, my daedric staff has no enchantments, nor did the daedric claymore from my previous game.

I always take the Atronach sign, no matter what I'm playing.

I'm wondering if speed and weight are involved. The Daedric Claymore is slow and heavy, which, I imagine, somewhat counters its massive damage....

You play on pc, right...

So you can use the console to set your blunt weapon to be equal to your long blade. Then throw away the sword and set the skill back where it was...
