Sneak, what can I do with it?

I have heard many say that sneak is the best skill there is, and I have now taken that as one of my major skills, but what can I do with it?

I know how to sneak, "left ctrl", but it doesn't seem to increase the skill, and I don't really know what I can do with it.

I have heard I can pick pock, how can I do that?
And I have heard that you can backstab, how can I do that aswell.

Any other things you can do with sneak?

-To increase your sneak skill, you have to manage to sneak, that is hide while somebody is watching you.

While sneaking you can:
-Pick pocket someone: While sneaking, you get to pickpocket somone instead of talking to them if you hit the space bar. The items you get to pickpocket depend on how good your - I think - security skill is. Be warned, if you are detected the one you stole from will start to attack you/denounce you to the guards ...

-Sneak around unseen and avoid having to fight each single rat you meet.

-Backstab: Go into hiding, sneak up to your ennemy, then use your weapon without letting got of your sneak button.

-STEAL! While hidden, you can steal stuff lying around without getting detected. Just sneak until you are hidden, then grab the item while the hidden icon shows in the bottom left corner of your screen. Be aware that if you fail and get arrested, any items you ever stole and any items of the same type, wether stolen or not, will be confiscated by the guards. You also can't sell them to the person you stole them from. If your items get confiscated, you can recover them from an evidence chest in the forts.

To make a long story short, sneaking is the key to wealth.

If your into it, you can find the master trainer for sneak. Of course, you need the money too. And it is a rather large amount of money to train to 100. But anyway, if you have 100 Sneak you can practically hide in the midddle ofr a room. It's pretty fun.

In fact sneaking ability grows very fast, much alike as acrobatics skill does if not faster. I usually start at the level 6 (helping at begining myself quite a bit with alchemy, spells and items) in tombs and other dark places. At the level 12-13 i have already 100 or near it in Sneak then without any training. However, i use to play mostly Stealth characters (such as Nightblade or custom ones of that kind) with Sneak in the maj./min. skills list, so fighters, for example, may need some initial training altogether.
