question on alchemy and enchanting

My skills in theses magics is around 16 now. I want to enchant some items and make some potions but i seem to fail on every attempt and lose items.

So my question is is there an easy potion or enchant item i can do to increase the skill? Or do i have to pay for training which is extremely costly until i have a sufficient skill in these areas?

thanks

not sure what you can do about enchant mine started at 20, and is progressing, though slowly.

alchemy is pretty easy since getting the materials in this game is not so hard at all you just keep mixing them till you can't stand it no more. And don't worry about the effects that you making you can always sell the bad potions you make to some trader for some more materials.

16 is very low for anything that does a skill check. If you really want to develop these, gather a lot of money and train the skills up; or start a different character that has these skills at a higher level--say, at least 25, or maybe 30.

Yeah, I agree. Training will be worth the sacrifice. Also with alchemy get a proper set of tools if you don't have them already. A full set of Master's tools really helps.

My character has enchant and alchemy in Major skills, started at levels 40 and 35 respectively. At those levels these skills are effective so I would say if you can train to high 20's you'll be ok.

There's always going to be some waste of materials esp. in alchemy, but then it's easy to gather a bunch too. In Enchanting you can just save and reload if you fail (even though it is cheesey), if you only have one gem left you have no choice.

when my alchemy was at 50, i had about 60% success making potions. when my alchemy was at 70 i had about 80% success. it is now at 85% and i fail maybe 1 out of 20 times (95% success). as was previously stated, find all master or grandmaster equipment. your potions will become better than what you can buy anywhere. even trash potions (like drain personality) can be sold for alot of gp.
here's something else that's interesting: my enchant is now 100. and yet i fail 100% of the time trying to place a 60pt enchantment on an item (it can hold exactly 60 pts). the enchantment i am trying to cast is a 30 pt shield for 20 seconds. the gem i use gives the item about 105 charges and the per use cost is about 7 charges. the reason i fail, i think is because that enchantment is a somewhat complex spell and i dont think my alteration skill is up to it (only at a 50). so, i think the school of the spell you are trying to enchant plays a part in your success. i can certainly put lower level enchantments on items (have a 30 sec invis on my belt. took me 5 or 6 tries to succeed tho. my illusion is about 50 as well).
