Nerano key glitch? (spoiler)

I just began playing Morrowind and am trying to do the 2nd Thieves Guild quest. I suceessfully pickpocketed they key off Nerano and click "take all" but the key does not appear in my inventory and if I kill him, his corpse still has the key. I know from reading the threads on this quest that I shouldn't kill him for several reasons. Is this a glitch? Is there a command console I can type in after I pickpocket the key to make it appear in my inventory? I already have too much time invested in this stupid quest to walk away from it. Thank you!

Just talk to the guy, bribe him until his disposition is above 70, and then you should get a dialogue option that leads to him 'giving' you the key, after you give him one more bribe that he asks for.

I'm pretty sure I picked his pocket. Try clicking on the key then dragging it to your inventory.

I tried the click and drag and that also did not make the key appear. This took numerous attempts as my pickpocket skills are still so poor - like my financial status - not enough money for a bribe!

I'm not sure, but I think you need a high stealth level to pick pocket. I used a cheesy technique to get all my abilities to 100. ***Spoiler***
I use a lower ability spell on myself at a trainer in that ability. The spell only lasts 2 secs, but it lowers my ability by 90 points. I immediately open the dialog with the trainer and since my skill is so low, he trains me. The spell expires and my level is up one level from the original. Repeat to level 100.:
Even with 100 stealth, I get caught about 1 in 4 tries.
Try the money making schemes in this forum. The potion scheme is effective.

I went back to the employee and just keep trying to bribe him with 10 gp and everytime it worked, I saved and keep trying until it worked again. This way I was able to get the key for only 50 gp although it took awhile. Thanks for the help. (bought some training with the reward)
