How to LOOK like a vampire without being one

As some who follow my threads may know, I decided to give up on being a vampire (too much hassle, even with mods) but I wanted to continue to use the vampire character graphics. I asked around for a modder to do it for me, and one did -- but he only set the dark elf vampire graphics as available, none of the other races. So I dug into the construction kit myself and figured out how.

It's -very- simple. In the body parts tab, just look for the heads that begin B_V instead of B_N. Double click on each one, click the box that saves 'playable' so that it has a check mark in it.

And that's it. From now on, whenever you start a game, the vampire heads will be available during character creation. I haven't figured out a way to access them with existing characters, though. The following console command will bring up the menu where you select your graphics....

player->enableracemenu

...but it takes you through the whole character creation process, resets your level to 1 and removes all the spells in your spellbook. Not a good thing. So for now, you'll have to resign yourself to only having access to the vampire graphics if you start a new character.

Note that some of these are -very- cool (khajit, dark elf, male imperial) and some are stunningly awful (female high elf).

No handy tutorial, but I know the step you're missing. When you open up the TES, go the File menu, click 'Data Files' and when the window pops up double click on the morrowind.esm file (so an x appears next to it), then click on 'set as active file'. Then when you hit okay it will open up the game data.

A neat trick to start your own experiment with editing is to check the box on a downloaded mod, but NOT set it as the active file. Change what you want to change in the file, then 'Save File'...you will be able to name it anything you want and it doesn't interfere with the original mod. From that point on, if you want to play around with the editor, you have a 'disposable' plug-in you can do anything with. Just remember to activate/deactivate the appropriate mods in your Data Files directory.
