The walkthrough doesn't precisely cover this question
This thread should probably have a spolier tag on it though.

To the best of my knowledge, the Good Beast has to be alive in order for you to complete that quest... and you need to successfully complete all of the standing stone quests in order to advance in the main quest.
There may be console codes to repair this problem, but I don't know what they are. If it is not possible... you will need to start over.

I thought this was covered in the walkthrough. Oh well. If the body is still there open the console, click on the body and type resurrect and hit enter.

I've added SPOILERS to your thread title. Please note the sticky at the top of the forum about giving away spoilers, and do so the next time you start a thread like this. Thanks.

In answer to your question, I know of no console command to view vanished journal entries.

Send a message via MSN to Greg.
"Journal BM_Beasts 10" should reset it. "Journal BM_Beasts 100" completes it.

i killed the beast the first couple of times that i tried to. the reaklings kept moving around. another thing that u could for next time would b to save ur game right before u help the beast so that if u do kill it u just have to reload.

Indeed, saving directly before situations like this is excellent advice.
I would also suggest creating a ranged healing spell ( if you aren't good at Restoration than simply have an item enchanted.)
That way you can periodically replace any of the bear's lost HP.
This is actually a useful thing to do in several Bloodmoon quests.
