GOTY launch error

Just got TESIII Morrowind GOTY edition on the advice of many kind folks in the TESIV Oblivion forum. Bad news is, on launch I get an error that says "DirectSound CreateSoundBuffer (primary) failed". Other games and Windows Media Player all play sound fine on the same PC. One clue - dxdiag says the sound device doesn't support hardware buffering, only software buffering. Anybody know of a setting in morrowind.ini that will tell the game not to try to use hardware buffers, or have any other suggestions that might help?

Near the top of the ini there is a line,

Disableaudio=0

Change it to Disableaudio=1. In game go into the options menu and you should be able to change the settings there to software acceleration. You can then go back to the ini and enable audio again.

Good idea but I changed Disable Audio=1, and still got the same error message. Any other ideas?

I looked through the ini but couldn't find anything. How about disabling your audio in the hardware manager? Then go into the game and change the settings.

No luck, I ended up installing on a different PC and everything works fine, thanks for the help though!

In case you'd like to install on your other computer.

I think if you run DXdiag you can change to software acceleration there.
