I have created a lot of characters in this game, and one thing I've realised is that they *all* fall into the rogue category. Even when I set out to do something different, I inevitably end up with a character most advanced in sneaking, security, marksman, light armor and speechcraft, usually with a bit of magic thrown in.
I have tried to play a pure mage. Equally, I have tried to play a pure fighter. But everything time I attempt this, I either abandon the character, or I make them into a rogue


How about everyone else? Do you successfully create different character types, or are they all fairly similar?

My characters are always fighter/mage, with more leaning towards magic.
(And, when I played BG series, my natural choice was always fighter->mage as well).

I can't play rogue. I can sneak around (ie.in my current run, my pc is level 20 with sneak level 94), but for the lock breaking, I always ended up using spells. But, at the same time, I can't play pure mage type either. I tried unsuccessfully several times as sourcerer or wizard, and always gave up as soon as I arrive at Balmora for the first time.

Ya know, until now I never 'really' thought about it. I guess I'd have to say I usually always play a fighter, although I try to train in alll skills and I try to use different skills from time to time.....but for me , a good long blade and let me whack them..........I know, brutish.

I always play mage. Even with pure stealth/pure combat characters, I would buy lots and lots of amulets and scrolls, and essentially I fight with levitation until level 10.

Fighter, always fighter.
And they tend to resemble Samurai, or are modeled after a Samurai charicter I have played(Likely in D&D).
I just love bashing things far too much.

i always try to play a differnt class each time, but i always end up stealing along the lines some were. I don't no if any one has every tryed, but if u can get through the game with out stealing something (and that means taking stuff out of barrels in the streets, in other words if u didnt pay for it its not yours) then well done lol. I can never resist the urge when i c a nice magical item...or shiny peice of armour.....i give in an steal it lol and kill all who stand in my way. I am a mage most of the time though, can't live with out my magic!

Usually fighter oriented, with magic for traveling/boosting/restoring.
I always try to complete as many quests for the good side as I can.
Unfortunately I can't resist turning evil once in a while.

I always come back to stealth. I've tried a wizardlike type for a few levels and I took a Dunmer fighter to level 15, but I got bored with it, even with Combat Enhanced installed.
Stealth is neat. There's nothing like sneaking past Dremora lords or High Ordinators or a bunch of werewolves, quietly pry open a lock, get what you came for and sneak out again.
Also, playing a stealth like pc sort of prevents you from getting too powerful. That way various enemies will stay dangerous, even when you're high level.

Exactly! That is why I like stealth so much. I also like the subtlety of it, as opposed to out and out hack and slash. Also... I'm just not that keen on the magic system in Morrowind, there isn't any variety beyond elemental spells basically (excepting paralyze and poison). Unlike in games such as SoA or IWD where magic becomes really interesting.
Stealth is just fun in MW, and there is almost always a challenge to it, which, as you say, is highly satisfying.

i always go for the powerplay... sneak, security, long blades, athletics, heavy armor.. always.. it doesn't matter which race i choose, that's pretty much the major skills i lean to.. and he wears heavy armor, sneaks to steal stuff early to quickly raise money, every time, i've tried others but i get bored so easily when trying to cripple myself intentionally... and playing pure mage in morrowind from the scracth is a major pain.. kill a rat, rest, kill a mudcrab, rest, nixhound->dead.. oh well

My characters are almost always part mage. They may be part fighter or part rogue, but there's always magic in the mix.

In MW, as Locke points out, the game is weighted against the pure mage in any case. If you want to be a mage, you have to start out with a weapon, and you usually ceom to rely upon that in interiors, such as caves, where there isn't much room for manuevering and something large with bad breath is standing right next to you.

I start training blunt weapons, almost all the time. Its a personal choice, and it seems blunt weapons are very effective in the game. Also, they're easy to find and cheap to buy. Ok. But always I keep magic around too. In Seida Neen I start by buying a staff (wooden or silver) and a spell if I dont have one on my list. I'm still using the pre-made classes but this seems really pointless, as I can train my character to be anything I want just by going down the stairs of Arrile's outpost and training any weapon I want with the fishes till it is satisfactory

During the development of the character I try to raise him in two stages: Till level 10 he's more a fighter than anything else. Then I "dual" him to mage, to grow up mage skills, and to become the leader of the mage guild. When I reach level 10 the balmora's house (an orc has a house, you're sent by the fighters guild to kill her) is mine, and I keep the alchemy ingredients there. But at level 10 I'm using magic a lot, and that's what matters. Then, when magic is satisfactory I try going to the sneaksman side, and developing thieving habilities. In the end I have what I call "morrowind FMT". Right now I'm playing a Kensai that is not so saint because he uses armour every now and then.

I tried to make a sneak character from the beginning, but it is very hard. With the FMT I can just play it at 100% dificulty, it is hard, but no problem. I hate dying in the hand of the dark assassins, and being a figther in the beggining helps me to overcome that.

Acrobatics

Like Dragon Wench and others I go for the stealth based character with some mage based skills as I find it more satisfying to complete quests through diplomacy/deception/skill than a general massacre. I've also downloaded many of the mods that make the use of thief skills more realistic (more difficult traps/locks, light based sneaking, armour penalties when sneaking etc.)

Not totally unexpected, coming from Captain Wicca And you're also consistent since you prefer mages in Baldur's Gate too, IIRC.
It's funny, in MW I strongly prefer stealth, but in the BG series the thief class isn't my favorite at all. I tend to go for heavy hitters like fighters or barbarians.

@Coot, but its seems to me that in Morrowind the thieving classes have much more freedom of choice than in BG... Due to spellcasting and to equipment and also, due to the inexistance of the auto-true sight function.
