? about Ebonheart Caverns, possible spoiler

I have just started playing Morrowind and I love it so far!(Never played anything else from this series)

I am just fighter/theif wandering, fighting, looting and not following any of the storyline yet. Just getting a feel for the game. I am first level, left the main town and turned right. At Ebonheart there is a cavern under it, I met a guy, Furius Aelius and he kicks my butt everytime. Who is he and do you have to be a higher level or have better weapons to kill him? I just have the sword from the falling wizard right now.

also

I am able to loot almost everything from him, so how special are the Glass weapons you get? A frostsword and a jinkblade. I noticed they are very expensive. 17,000 & 6,500 GP. (I tried using these and still didn't kill him. I noticed he is wearing some cool looking armour.

and last but not least,

There is a secret passage into Ebonheart, you end up in some Imperial Shrine with Imperial weapons and armour on some alter. Are these things anything special? Part of a quest?

If you don't get a "The thread of prophecy has been severed...." message then the person(s) you killed is fair game as far as the main quest goes. It IS possible to kill secondary quests by killing someone, but you may never know unless you play through the game again.

The glass weapons aren't rare, but they certainly aren't common early in the game either...use 'em if you can until you find better . There is one special piece of armor in Ebonhart, but I wouldn't worry too much about the stuff on the altar (just remember who you sell it to in case you need to buy it back at some point).
