Turn for the worse....

I had previously reported my game-launching problems were over, and it did work for a little while. But now it's started screwing up again (why would a game work once, then not again?).

Anyway, I've tried everything on their website and everything their tech support has told me. Like a dumba** I've already mailed off the reciept for the $10 EB gift voucher (woo hoo), so I guess I'm stuck until they come out with a patch.

When I launch the game, I get the spinning CD icon then a blue screen with a couple of different error messages on it, in case anybody else has an idea.

I am sure you have tried this as you have been working on this problem for awhile - so I apologize in advance if this is redundant information.

First things to check:
1. You have updated drivers for your video card
2. You have updated directx to version 9.0

Then:
1. If running Windows 98 go into msconfig - if higher version of windows then use the appropriate startup editor. Disable all programs from starting up except sys.tray. Restart your system. Try to run the game.

99% of problems running software are the result of driver compatibility issues or conflicts between software running on your system and the game - it sounds like the .exe file for TOEE is conflicting with some other piece of software running on your system. Disabling all startup programs may allow you to run the game until you can pinpoint what the conflict is.

Again - you have probably already tried all of these things - sorry if this is too basic.

Yeah, I've disabled start up items all the way down to like 2 or 3 items, but not quite as basic as you've suggested. I may try that. Who knows, 1 or 2 applications may make the difference.

The problem could be related to the copy-protection used on the game. The copy-protection SecuROM used on the game could cause a problem with certain CD-ROMS and CD-RWs. It's a really annoying problem: I've had it with Neverwinter Nights. Publishers want to earn as much money as they can by stopping piracy, but they don't take into account the issue of compatibility. I suggest you use a No-CD patch and play without the CD and see if the problem goes away. If it does, then it's definitely the game's problem. However, only use the No-CD patch when you own a legal copy of the game; otherwise it's piracy.
