Identifying items

Ugh..this is kind of ridiculous..having to spend 100 gp on an identify spell or 100 gp at the store..why is there no knowledge (arcana) or did I miss it?
(which is possible, I was slightly disoriented when I created my part and what not..but I don't recall seeing the skill)

There is a 'Identify' Lv 1 spell that you Cleric could learn to identify items.

*checks his PHB* I dont' see any mention of an identify spell for clerics?
Is this something game specific and I assume it must still cost 100 gp to cast it?

yes. it is lv 1 wiz/soc. Just look at the manual for the list of spells.

I knew about the identify spell for wizards/sorc see my original post I was confused because he said 'cleric'
and I knew of no such thing...
i'm just trying to see if there is a legit way to ID potions (I'm just not spending 900 gp to identify 9 cLW potions, and they won't stack until they are ID'd, which clogs inventory)

Regarding potions - it seems that like potions all have the same color and appearance. ie - healing potions are all blue and have the same shape, etc.

If you go to a vendor that sells potions - you can compare the appearance of the potions he sells (which are labled) with potions in your inventory.

Kind of a lame solution - but it seems to work.

Yes i've discovered that..but my real problem is stacking them...
I don't want to take up 9 slots with 9 CLW potions.. kind of annoying if I start getting alot of light potions and such..as it can quickly clog your inventory so you can't pick up anything else..
