crash on running

Are there any known issues running TOEE in Windows XP Media Edition 2005? The game runs fine on my laptop using XP Professional (SP2) but has issues on my brand-new desktop.

It runs fine at the end of installation at the "do you want to run TOEE now?". But if you select the game from the start menu it gives me an "illegal operation" error and crashes to desktop. Then I have to restart the computer because the mouse pointer never changes from the spinning CD icon. I just got a brand new Dell running Windows XP Media Edition 2005 with current drivers for video, sound etc. and current windows updates. This happens every time without fail and happens whether or not I've installed the patch.

Thanks!

Have you tried to do a clean install? I've had occassional problems that are normally cleared by this.

Yeah, I uninstalled and reinstalled about 5 or 6 times. That's how I determined that the game will ONLY run at the end of installation when you get the "do you want to run TOEE now?" prompt. That's what I think is strange- why would it run fine at the end of install but then never again without re-installing? Makes very little sense.

I did see something on the Atari forum that suggested that it could be a conflict between my CD player and something else that's active. So I have to go through my active background programs and start turning them all off.

In the meantime I bought Oblivion which runs like a charm...

Question Same Problem

Pardon me for misunderstanding the thread, but what was the solution to the windows media bug? I don't even get an error message, but instead get dumped back to windows without a peep. Any help is greatly appreciated. I have installed patch 3 only.
