surround gaming

I don't have a specific problem, but I was just wondering how much you knew about surround gaming, and this seemed the most appropriate forum.

I'm talking about the Matrox Parhelia, which allows you to use three displays in a widescreen format in what is now a lot of games. I did a bit of research on it and it says it uses adjustable field of view within the game to output it to one virtual monitor at a res of 2400x600 or 3072x768 or whatever you want(although I doubt the Parhelia could handle much more)..

My main point was, I have a dual head graphics card (Radeon 8500) and I was wondering if it was possible to do a similar thing using two displays (I'm thinking more about RTS here such as Haegemonia as the middle bit would be very annoying in an FPS). Also, I have a TV-out, which theoretically gives me three displays, so is there any reason why I couldn't actually do the same thing as with the Parhelia?

Something that makes me think this might be possible is that the ATI software that handles multimonitor displays (Hydravision) gives the resolution as an overall 2048x768 for my two monitors.

Any thoughts gratefully received

Here are a couple of sites outlining the whole surround-gaming thing...
