| | | SpamWeasel help Yes, I know this is a rather esoteric thing to ask, but hell, what have I got to lose? Not my sanity. That went years ago.
Right now, I'm just trying to configure this freeware spam filtering program I downloaded so that it will work with OE 5.5. However, everytime I try to check email with SW running, it OE chokes on the password. I know of no way around this. Are there any OE experts in the house?

| | | Hi Fable,
I've downloaded and tried out this program - looks quite good!
As for the setup, you have to make some changes to your email account. The POP3 server needs to be changed to 127.0.0.1 and your username from username to username@pop3.isp.com
It takes a bit longer to downlaod email, but seems to work well.

Yet the thing still refuses to work, and requests my password whenever I try, repeatedly. It shows the server as 127.0.0.1. The username it gives is only the first part of the username under the main page of OE Express/Accounts/Properties/General. There, it's listed as XXXXXX@comcast.net. When it's brought up as a failed password, it shows only XXXXXX.
Any ideas?

| | @Fable, when you are in OE and amending the properties of your account settings, doesn't your incoming mailserver account name have a % instead of an @? Mine does. ie username%comcast.net. This is on the server tab - on the general tab, your email address will remain username@comcast.net. Just a thought I had the same problem after moving from AOL to ADSL, I had not previously used OE and was putting an @ instead of a % on the server page, I was getting prompts for passwords when it was an incoming mailserver issue.

The account name is simply the XXXXXX part of XXXXX@comcast.net.

| | | On the server tab, not general tab, there is an incoming mailserver. Is it here that just has the XXX or are you talking about the email account name on the general tab? I am sorry if I am misunderstanding you, I was referring to the incoming mailserver address on the server page. If this just has XXX then I would have thought you need to amend it to give the full address.

The account name under Incoming Mail Server has XXXXXX out XXXXX@comcast.net, which is my email account.

The prefix may vary from provider to provider though so I am not sure...
And the mailserver on mine uses a % instead of a @ (on the server tab) in which is otherwise my email address, again I am not sure if this is specific to my provider...
What have you changed, if anything, of your original setup?

| | This is exactly the way my OE was configured before installing SpamWeasel. It's been set like this upon the suggestion of Comcast, after we all got dumped by @Home.

When I was setting this up I had exactly the same thing until I made that specific change.

| | | I've just added that, and the password problems stopped. Now, I just need to wait for some garbage email to see if the thing actually works, or whether some other adjustments are needed.

| | Yeah, already tried that. It worked. But I'm not quite convinced, yet.

| | I'm not wishing for it. I just know it will arrive.
And it looks good--thanks for the help from both of you in getting that set up.
