Post Help?

I'm wanting to play BG2 right now, but I've got a bit of a problem. My CD-ROM drive doesn't work, so I've been using my DVD-ROM. However, the DVD-ROM is refusing to read any disc other than DVDs. It had been working, but suddenly it started having trouble reading them, though I could eventually get it to read the disc. Now, it won't read my discs at all, except for DVDs. I stick my BG2 CD in and it attempts to read it, then spits it back out. Could someone please help?

What did you just before it stopped reading them? The answer might help, but long distance trouleshooting ain't gonna be easy.

You're not helping her.

IMO, try messing with it a little bit in My Computer. You might have to hold the door shut and open the file up directly from there instead of through a program or automatically.

Won't work. It's not reading the discs. Instead, after attempting to read'em, it spits'em out. Holding the tray in just keeps it from coming out, but it still has been unable to read/access what's on the CD.

Am I the only one who think these two posts are not consistent?

@SSaturn: I'm sorry I cannot help you.

Did we ask you to spam her thread when she's asking for help?

@Sailor: Oh boy, that is never good... maybe try putting in several different kinds of discs, see what'll get read and what won't (i.e. programs, a CD-R, a music CD...)

Before I had any trouble with the DVD-ROM reading CDs, my CD-ROM worked fine, so I used it. Then my CD-ROM stopped working. I switched it from CD-ROM=F Drive and DVD-ROM=G Drive to DVD=F and CD=G since my BG games automatically read from the F drive. Soon after that, it got to where it didn't like reading CDs. I would put a CD in and it would spit it out. If I held it in long enough, though, it would eventually read the CD. However, now it won't read the CD no matter how long I leave it in.

My, my. You're quite the valorous and noble advocate. I withdraw my comments posthaste. I'd hate to be on your bad side "Shadow".

Forgive me, it's the bronchitis making me grumpy today... I can't even laugh without coughing.

@Saturn = I'm not sure what's going on then... I don't understand why it would do that unless your CD didn't fit right or was damaged...

It'll only read DVDs, though I haven't tried a music CD yet; but what's important is to get it to read the BG2 CDs. I've also tried my Diablo CD and Freespace CD. It won't read any of them.

*sigh* I've got to go to my Electronic Multimedia Portfolio class now. I'll be back sometime around 5PM MST or later. Keep the 'possible solutions' coming.
