Graphics problems

At the lack of a better title. I've been busy all day getting my 'puter back in order again after reinstalling Windows. Everything is working fine except for my graphics card. I installed steam, got Half Life 2: Episode One back, but it wouldn't get beyond the loading screen. It doesn't error out either, it just prompts me back to my desktop.

Then I noticed DxDiag has similar problems, I simply can't run the tests. I included the report as an attachment so you can check out my setup and the error message yourself. I have no idea what I have done wrong. According Omega Drivers.net their latest driver still supports my Radeon 9800xt, so I shouldn't have anything to worry about. Likewise, DirectX 9.0c is working too.

I don't have much to go on. It has just generally been too long since I had to deal with anything of this nature, so I might be forgetting something fairly simple. I'm open to suggestions at this point.

While that it completely true, DX10 is only available to Vista users. I'm on XP Home Edition.

Is your DirectX the latest one or not? If not, try to update it. Hope it helps.

It's kinda hard to check now that it's all 10-10-10 on microsoft.com. 9.0c is the latest, right?

Edit: It might be some kind of driver issue. The creator seems to have forgotten to update the readme that goes with it. I'm going to try out some older drivers and I'll settle for them if they work.

2nd Edit: Yup, that did the trick. On Driverheaven I noticed a bunch of people having the same problem with the recent patch. I reverted one driver back and everything works again. Now I can re-experience the joy of still not knowing what kind of NWN2 character I want to build! And killing Combine soldiers.
