Unhappy DS problem

I just got DS and enjoy playing it for the time I get to play
For some reason Ill be able to play for a while and then itll stop working right and this loud high pitch beep will play and i can't use my mouse anymore

AMD t-bird 1.1
512mb ram
geforce 2 gts
sound blaster live value

if anyone has had this problem i think it might be heat but it really only happens during this game and sometimes in baldurs gate 2
i am completely updated to best of my abilites

Check your CPU fan. It sounds like your system might be overheating.

agreed. with the amd 1.1t-bird, heat is an issue. What kind of pc do you have? How many fans are in the case? Do you have diagnostic programs with the machine to monitor fan rpm, cpu temp, chassis temp.

A couple of questions for you.
What is your normal CPU temperature?
How big is your computer case?
Is there much ventilation around the computer, specifically at the back of it? The problem could be that your cooling fans and heatsinks aren't coping with the heat levels due to poor air circulation. Just a thought.

Look through your Bios and see if you have any heat sensing applications in Bios, i have anti-burn Shield on mine and it beeps to tell me my chip is past the heat level. I don't know if it locks up or not since mine has never gone over 65 degrees....although it was beeping incrementally at that point.

It might also be a configuration issue, you might want to check if everything is set correctly to complement you T'bird.

I just don't feel that it is an overheating issue because the game keeps playing and the keyboard semi responds but the sound card makes that noise and i lose the mouse im gonna try some other stuff still

Have you tried swapping out some of the hardware, try playing the game without the soundcard installed, perhaps it is a specific issue with the game? I recall BG used to crash all he time.

Is the high pitched beep you decribed earlier coming from the soundcard and speakers or the internal speaker?

Wait a second...
In your first post you said you're completely updated. Have you downloaded the latest drivers for the SBLive card?
I've had problems with that driver in the past. It didn't cause the same problem you have, but if you've got it you might want to try going back to the basic MS drivers.

Have you tried playing the game with just the onboard audio? If that works then there is possibly a conflict between that and the sound card.
