Cookies

This is a really stupid question, I'm sure. I can't get the forum to show new posts while I'm looking at a thread. In order to see whether there are posts I seem to have to come right out and re-enter GameBanshee. I have read the FAQ and it says there is a cookie you can enable which solves this but I don't know how to do this and I can't find the option. Please help

Do you have to enter your password whenever you return to GameBanshee?

Check if you have set your browser's security too high (in IE), or did not allow websites to set cookies (all browsers). Alternatively, you can clear all cookies, set security to medium/allow cookies, then try again. They should all be in the Options section of your browser.

Thanks to both of you for your replies.

@Rookierooke

I went in to internet options ( I hope that's what you meant) and moved the privacy slider from medium to low. If that is the solution do I need to do something else to enable the cookie? I use firefox, not IE (internet explorer, I presume) - does that make a difference?

Odd... I use Firefox as well, and I don't have this problem. I just looked at my "Options" settings; my cookies, cache etc. are all set to "clear."

The only thing I can think of is maybe you have your "Remember Visited Pages" setting at 0 or something. (mine is set to 9 days, which must be the default because I haven't tinkered with it at all)

Your other possibility might be to download the latest version of Firefox, completely uninstall the one you have now, and then reinstall the new one.

I should clarify
When I was talking about my settings I was referring to those in Firefox itself (not "internet options")
To get to those I was referring to, open up Firefox, go to "tools," => "options," => "privacy"

Good luck!

That was good of you, DW. I've been fiddling about off and on today, and I did eventually find that. It hasn't fixed the problem though. I have to go out now but tomorrow I'll probably try finding a later version of firefox to install, as you suggested.

This is the main sentence which confuses me....
Are you saying that when you return to the site after some time away, that you don't have the yellow "new post" icons instad of the grey "no-new posts" icons?
Or that while you surf the site, you don't get the yellow icons.
Or are you saying that you always get "grey" icons, or .....?

I'm sorry, but I need this cleared up, because from how I understand your question it isn't to do with cookies, but infact with the cache (as DW hints at as well)

If you don't have to log in each time you visit the site, as you answerd to fable, then I'd say that this isn't a cookie issue (and thus privacy).

Firefox doesn't HAVE a privacy slider. Set it to Allow site to set cookies in the Privacy section of Options, then select Clear All.

@rookierookie

I have done that and I need to wait to see if it has worked

@Xandax

Thank you for your response. I have now reinstalled Firefox and done what Rookierookie suggested. I hope this will fix it but if not can I come back to you?

@ Xandax

Thank you for the offer of help. Something I have done seems to have fixed the problem, but I appreciate it all the same

And thanks to everyone else too
