Completely bizarre problem!

Well after changing the PSU for my 'puter it is working fine - knock on wood - except for this really bizarre thing that is occurring - when I minimize and maximize any window there is this sort of swishing sound coming from the case (speakers are turned off so I'm sure). Nothing else, just this very annoying, and very low frequency (so difficult to hear) sort of swishing, metallic, irritating sound.

Anyone ever hear of anything like this before?

Yep, it's a windows based sound. One of the small MIDI sounds that occur in windows, like when you boot it up you get that nice fancy music that no one cares about.

As for the whole speaker being turned off thing, most computers these days have a very small and very low quality speaker built in, which will act as a substitute in case your speakers go dead for some reason (in this case, they think it's dead even though you just turned them off).

Turning useless sounds off-

My Computer >>> Control Panel >>> Sounds and Audio Devices

Open that up and go to the "sounds" tab, and there you'll see a bunch of file names or whatever with a small megaphone right next to them. If you want to get rid of all the sounds, just drop down the box "Sound Scheme" and hit "no sounds." But if it's just one sound you want to get rid of, highlight the sound you want to get rid of (Example: "minimize") and below will be another drop down box. Scroll through it all the way up until you see an option called (none).

That should do it for ya.

There's only the problem that it's already on 'none', that's the first thing I checked, I know of it. Just for the heck of it I also went through all the sounds that are turned on and none of them even resemble the swishing sound that is heard. I am simply at a loss as to what is causing it. You can hear it even when the speakers are on, I turned the off to check it was a case-based sound, not the speakers that were malfunctioning. Bah.
