C:\ Directed to Warcraft Install? ? ? ?

For some reason my friends laptop I am on has this problem of assuming that its root C:\ is a shortcut to a warcraft 3 install. for instance you open up my computer and the C:\ icon is a warcraft 3 logo. You double click and it opens up the installer. You right click and choose to explore or even choose to "open" after right clicking and it see's the drive not the installer. I can't edit the root c:\ path because well it's properties does not give you the available choice.

HELP!

Well, that's a new one!

What OS are you using?
It sounds like something has modified the default action for the C:\ drive, which is not a good thing. You can reset it manually using regedit, but you really need another system with the same OS for comparison to get the details right. The key you need to change will be under "\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\" and you should find the option under "\shellex" (well, that's on an XP system anyway).

You could try System Restore and roll it back a few days. Any idea when this problem started?

Hey flibble within shellex there are the drop down menus Contextmenuhandlers
DragDropHandlers
FolderExtensions
PropertSheetHandlers

Now where in there would I find the key to change? I have checked out two different systems and had a hard time see'ng the difference. Help?

Sorry Thug, I can't find the article I read on changing that item. Unfortunately most of the info in that reg key is meaningless, but I have had another thought...

In explorer check the defualt action fo rthe file type 'drive'. There should be nothing set as a default, and the problem may be that WC3 has been added to the actions list ont he advanced properties options. If so, are you able to remove the default action? You may have to remove all actions associated with 'drive' but it should fix the problem. The down side to this is you may lose the ability to search from the drive root, but running the installer over the top of the existing setup may sort that out.
