.ace files

does anyone know which program opens .ace files?
I have one file like that, which is imperitive for a certain game, now I was told by someone that it requires a program called win something, now I thought I heard win 8, or win ape, but all I've found online was a winape summer camp and a program called wineight which does not help me.
I am desperate.

.ace is the file extension for the Ace Archiver file compression utility. It is essentially a competitor for the .zip standard that Win-Zip, Quarterdeck Zip-It, PKZip and others use.

I've heard that some file compression utilities can both .zip and .ace files, but I can't name one off the top of my head.

Check out www.winace.com to download the Winace utility which should open your file. I was just browsing through the site and I think that the utility is freeware, but don't quote me on that.

I think it might be, but IRC they always remind me to buy something, but i can't remember what it is

.ace is actually a better compression method than Zip, they compress at a better rate, plus winace is more astetically pleasing

A program called Winrar will allow you to extract .ace, .zip and a whole host of other files. When I find the url I will post it.

I found another utility called UltimateZip that claims to work with 16 different file compression types. I'm sure that there are a gazillion out there; it's just a matter of finding the ones with the lease amout of spyware and advertisements attached to them.
