| | Call me a Lancelot but I overwhelmingly prefer the Light side if forcced to make an extreme decision (like KOTOR) but otherwise its fun to play as the dark do-gooder. By that i refer to the alignment of chaotic good or chaotic neutral in Baldurs Gate or Neverwinter, which in the former's case allows you to be a hero but no annoying paragon of goodness (i like paladin types for their abilities, but their dialog is so annoying), or in the latter's case simply unpredictable. I had to go Light side in KOTOR because I just don't really like being mean to random people.
As for the powers i'm a huge fan of LS's stasis field and destroy droid, so I don't know what anyone is talking about that "dark side powers are stronger" because thats hardly the case; simply a matter of how one plays. I will admit to the occasional use of the Kill power and have been known to laugh a bit when my Jedi Master lifts some poor sith sap off his feet and wrings the life from him... maybe underneath it all i am a little evil (or just love the irony) |

| | | A lot of people can't seem to be able to stomach the dark side. Don't feel lonely... I think I finsihed the first game once as Dark Side... it was better to be Dark side in the first than the second though... I still think that the second game had a really blank DS.

| | | I played KotOR I as a dark-sider. I have yet to steal KotOR II from my friend, but I will eventually...
In life I am pretty placid, I have a messed up guilt complex so if I do something bad I beat myself up about it for months, even years. So when I play games I find it so much fun to be evil. To jsut be completely out of character for me, there is something cool about telling a bunch of pixels to "F*ck off" when they tell you their kid has been stolen by orcs and they want you to get it (or whatever), becasue in real life I would be in tears over theri plight...
I just enjoy doing different things, and becase I am quite nice (IMO) In rl, being a complete and utter bastardis really, really fun...
Just givving my two credits...

| | | I think that the dark side is pretty sweet, because it reflects what I would more or less do if I had that power: I would extort people out of money, I would Force Persuade Trandoshans to jump into bottomless pits, I would do that cool, melee weapon spinny-thing everytime someone charged me/ everytime I was standing on top of a big pile of Jedi/Royalist/Cannock bodies. The jedi seem waaaay to apathetic to me, in which I emphasise the pathetic. If they have to be so inhuman in their practices, why didn't they just make the order out of droids? Besides, if they're not allowed to love, HOW DO THEY MANAGE TO REPRODUCE???????

thinkin more on this, i wonder how jedi like revan and malak came to be. were they born of jedi? surely, their births werent the divinely conceived sort. then anakin wouldnt seem so prodigal. "holo news: jedi are popping out of nowhere, literally! we asked Paren T. Less, a jedi sentinel from coruscant, 'who are your birth parents?' 'honestly, i dont think I ever had any,' he claims. hm...thats what they all say now-a-days...more on this story latter when things become more clear."
doesnt matter. i still think its unsettling to play ds actually, in kotor I its not too bad, but in the II one...gees. ds really is dark.

Less dude... But, yeah, I thought about it, too, and Revan would really fit in that Anakin-Skywalker-kind-of story.
But on the note of the original question... I always play Light Side. Why? Well, I'm one of the few who actually adore long conversations, I like finishing all the quests, talking to all the people, finding out every little tidbit of information I can get my greedy little hands on. But apart from that personal geek gain, playing LS is so much more fulfilling. I'm not really enjoying myself when I run around screaming "Aaarrgh leave me alone you worms I'll crush you with my awesome DS powers grrrwwaaarrrgghhhh I hate you all POWER!!!!!..." You get the picture.
And I don't find myself at any loss regarding powers. I'm quite happy with Stasis, Destroy Droid, Force Wave, and old faithful Heal. Sure, when I don't know what to choose, I can always take Storm or Kill and suffer the little penalty, but in battles I usually Stasify the opponents, hack and slash away, and have a darksider electrocute them with Storm all the while. Wow. Putting it like this, I am cruel.
I play LS because I love all the little people. And deep down I strongly believe in happy endings.
But as to the whole Sith Philosophy vs. Jedi Philosophy vs. Grey Side Philosophy discussion... I guess I'd see it from Jolee's point of view. Grrwaarggh Kill Kill Kill darksiders are annoying, and so are preachy lightsider Jedi. Both the Codes are a bit doubtful. I'd go light side to the end (when you reach the glow and little stars, probably the Jedi equivalent of an aureola ), but I'd stay human, as good old Revan so rightly put it.
Since I haven't finished KotOR II yet, I don't know much about the 'questions' some of you have mentioned, but I remember the way my faith was shaken back when I faced Bastila on the Rakatan Temple Summit. And Malak's departing words hit me deeply. Kudos to KotOR, it's really not as plastic and black-and-white as some other SW franchise expansions, or indeed the original movies.

| | | The eternal struggle of good and evil - yes, it's that time of the year again..
Seriously though, I have issues about playing a straight-out dark sider too (and I'm kindda happy to see that others do too, makes me more comfortable with the future of the world, ya know?). That said, I forced myself to all the way dark side in Kotor I, because I never tried it. kotor II I was good.
Here's the problem. The good guys (in Kotor the Jedi), are too goody-goody (and come on, you have to admit this, even though the game occasionally reminds us that "the jedi are not good, they are neutral").
Then why not dark side - they are infinitly cooler IMP (sith lord... ssssith lord... it even sounds cool - I mean Darth Vader or little Luke from a backwater planet) Why not - because no-one really can do it, in the end - me included.
I made my own home-made solution, to play every RPG (not including kotor I) as a "grim good guy, that's really, well, grim n' stuff - not to mention cool, and not doing it for the praise and the glory and generally for being goody-goody. ( a horrible kliché I know).
But the problem is, this is forced down upon you isn't it? In the game, NPC's say zany stuff like "you saved us great hero", and you mutter under your breath "yeah, but I'm still cool and detached.. n' stuff - go away silly person" (whereafter you go over to the local smith/shopkeeper/bartender to say something really mean to compensate)
The game that finds a solution to this, is bound to be a winner. |

| | | back to that question on where jedi come from, they are born liek normal people to normal parents, some people are born more sensitive to the force than others, thety arent a specific race. the jedis find these people and trian them to be the next gen of jedis.
and to stay on topic: what is so great abotu DS is for those of us who dont realy like long conversations, and for those of us who dont like... people, we have ways tog et around both of hose things. |

| | | I luv being dark side...nothing greater then listening to someone's sob story about them being betrayed(kotor I) then turning on them...or twisting someone's ideals and dreams into nothing and having them follow your every command, or walking down the street and some drunks(kotorI) hassle you..you kill them. Cause I mean come on seriously why be a wimp and let people walk all over you when you have the power to shape the entire course of history |

| | | Well, although I typically end up staying away from the darkside while playing these games, I always find that path useful for some quick credits, and shorter conversations about quests that you would rather not deal with.
