| | those pics are rather computer generated... though i am very surprised that www.theforce.net took it seriously. these rumors are like nothing i've ever seen. i am truly impressed of the proportions the kotor III rumors took. i've rarely i've seen so many rumors coming up so fast, some of them clearly indicating that lucasarts is cooking something. they've got to make an official statement about this at least after empire at war is launched |

| | Kotor III speculation on knights.com????
posted by Com Raven on main page. Quote:
So, you read the bit below about Obsidian Entertainment doing a pure action-combat KotOR 3? Laughed about how crazy that ideas sounds? Alright, then you might be prepared to read this
It seems that Obsidian is hiring a Audio Programmer for an unannounced game. Not too exciting in itself.
It gets more interesting once you look at the details:
Audio Programmer - PS3, XBOX 360, PC
Unannounced - 3rd Person, ACTION, RPG
So, a few days after IGN (who are despite some occasional wacky predictions still a great source for gaming news) proclaims a Xbox360 action-based KotOR 3, we find that Obsidian (the most likely candidate for KotOR 3 since BioWare is busy with its own IPs) is working on an action rpg for the 360, PC (a sure bet for any future KotORs) and the PS3 (with the PS3 having a HDD this time around, a port seems likely).
| Feel free to draw your own conclusions, and to discuss them along with the rest of the community on our KotOR III Boards.
Feel free to disagree or agree. total speculation.
another interesting thing??? Kotor 3 ?????? (Just a guess) http://www.creativeheads.net/JobDetails.aspx?JobID=677

| | Noooo!!! We CAN'T have an action combat KotOR III!! That's all wrong! No news is better than rumours of action KotOR!!
I'm sorry. I know I shouldn't react like this. But I'd much rather not have a KotOR III at all if action combat means we'll be fighting like in VTM:Bloodlines... I like the turn-based RPG concept.

| | Please, don't let this become another Action game. I actually liked the system in KotOR I and in KotOR II. Please let this be a rumour.
However, some games in the past have recieved that 'Action' title when most consider it just a plain RPG on a variety of news sites, one of the reasons I like GameBanshee more than the others.
Although, nice digging on that job offer, Bastila_Shan. I'm all happy now. Quote: |

If you like that kind of style, fine but so many people getting up in arms about changing this out dated style is kind of silly.
I don't want to offend anyone, (I'm starting to think that shoud be my signature, since I always seem to be disagreeing with someone over something in these forums) but if I wanted take turns in a game that my fate is decided my a roll of the dice, I'd spend ten bucks on a Monopoly board, not two hundred on a game system, and fifty a pop for games.
While I've played and enjoyed my turn based games, it was always in spite of the combat system, not because of it.

| | kotor games are primarily rpg games, not action games so to me the turn by turn system works perfectly. if i wanted an action game then i'd buy something like doom. |

| | Okay Ladies and Gents,
again I have found some more Kotor III rumour/speculation, read this: Quote:
Obsidian Working On Next-gen KOTR 3?
According to various reports, Obsidian Entertainment - developing house of Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords - is currently working on an Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 game. Although the actual title hasn't been revealed, chances are at least reasonable that it's the third Star Wars game in the Knights of the Old Republic series, currently labeled KOTR 3. We'll keep you updated if Obsidian makes any official comments.

| | DOUBLE TREAT TODAY
OH my we are in for a real Kotor III rumour treat tonight
look at this!
Quote:
Obsidian's Quadruple Set
The dev team behind KOTOR: The Sith Lords has new games in store. What are they?
by Douglass C. Perry Quote:
January 17, 2006 - Obsidian Entertainment is currently working on three unannounced role-playing games, according to job listing site Creative Heads.
Comprised of former several Black Isle and BioWare creators, Obsidian appears to be expanding with work expressly for next-generation and PC platforms. One game, listed as a third-person action-RPG for Xbox 360 and PS3, is possibly the third in the Knights of the Old Republic series. Neither LucasArts nor Obsidian would confirm a renewal of their work done on Knights of the Old Republic: The Sith Lords. According to a source close to the development team, Obsidian may not have sealed the deal yet for KOTOR 3.
The second role-playing game listed (Obsidian is looking for an entry-level programmer for this title) is an RPG slated for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. This second RPG is an original intellectual property called Project New Jersey and uses the Unreal 3 Engine, according to Obsidian employees. Along with job postings for Neverwinter Knights 2 (announced in August 2004), Obsidian is also creating an adventure-RPG for Xbox 360 and PS3 (for which it's in search of a senior graphics programmer).
In addition to the Creative Heads listing is Obsidian's own job listings.

Take Fable for example, one of the best rpgs today, and it uses an action based combat system.
However you feel about any combat system though, an argument about this takes away from what our real concerns should be for this or any other game.
The STORY is what makes any rpg great or lame, particularly a SW rpg. Another rushed storyline would make Kotor look like, The Matrix, of the rpg world.

| | i agree completely with the story having to be good. the main reason i play rpgs is for the story. if they can make the combat so it works well then i don't mind what form it takes, i just like the turn based system myself. |

| | Yes, that is true. Take Morrowind for example - fight's there sucked, and that's true. But the story and freedom the game gave still made it one of the best RPG games ever. I prefer a good story than breath - taking fight's when it comes to RPG games.

Another rushed storyline would make Kotor look like, The Matrix, of the rpg world. | I have to disagree with your statement that Fable is one of the best RPGs out there. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything great either (actually, I was quite disappointed with the a lot of it). Action RPGs are all fine and good (well some of them) but a lot of times they just turn into hack and slash games with slightly more involved plots (which is about all I got out of Fable).
People can say what they want about the turnbased system being outdated, but that doesn't seem to keep games like Final Fantasy (pick a number) from being the best RPG series out there, nor has it hurt DragonQuest VIII, or any other turnbased game. A lot of people simply enjoy the games were they can take their time and pick their moves much more, and wouldn't bother picking it up if it were an 'action' RPG. Besides it's not like Kotor makes you wait patiently for the bad guys to attack and then lets you sit around and slowly mull over your options.
I will agree that it is the story that makes the RPG, so whatever they decide to do, hopefully they'll take a bit more time with it than they did with Kotor II. |

| | Hi
I did some more digging and I found this, its a few weeks old but it keep you reading until hopefully something else offical comes up.
Of course take this as another speculation. Quote:
Silence doesn't always mean inaction. LucasArts is reportedly working quietly on two big name sequels expected late 2006 or early 2007. No major announcements have been made, but IGN has done some digging and turned up some info.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IGN has learned that LucasArts recent silence does not mean inactivity. Infact IGN revealed that LucasArts is infact working on a sequel to the surprise hit Mercenaries for Xbox 360 and PS3.
Also quietly in development is KOTOR 3, with the team at Obsedian still behind the game early news is that players can expect better interaction between NPCs and the main character, also IGN said to expect the fighting system to be completely real time. What is not known at the time is which platform KOTOR 3 will land on, one can hope that Obsedian would make the next gen jump.
We'll bring you more information on Mercenaries 2 and KOTOR 3 as it becomes available.

| | | Hmmm, if the fighting is completely 'real time,' does that mean no more ordering your party members around? I mean, generally, a turn based system is one that allows you to give commands as needed, but 'real time' would mean that the action just sort of keeps going, right? In other words, my character doesn't swing at anything unless I hit the 'swing' button.
Well, whatever, I guess it's not official so it's rather pointless to speculate, but I'd be curious to see how they plan on giving you party members to fight along side you when the action is in real time. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
