Armour in Kotor, some ideas.

Hi i am a new user of this board, but as a long time player of kotor i have some ideas regarding armour.

For the sole reason of it looking good, i allways use Darth Bandons armour whenever i play Kotor. Alltough other types give better protection, they all look fey. Every hardened fighter knows that looking good means everything when going to battle

My idea is to let the player go to a armour store at the beginning of the game. There he/she can pick from a great number of basic armour that have different looks.
This armour has the protection he needs early in the game, but has the advantage of a large number of upgrade options.

As the game progresses, and the player unlocks new worlds he/she gets accsess to new upgrade options, either by completing sidequests or buying them at stores
If the player tires of his outfit he/she can get a new one, and transfer the upgrades.

This way the player gets to customize the look of the caracter freely, and yet have the best armour protection.

This idea allso apply to vizors/masks, as there are a number of ugly ones, that i exclude for this reason.

So is it just me that wants to look good while waging war ?

Pegon

I agree this would be very nice. I played most of KotOR I wearing a Light Exoskeleton 'cause I looked really good in it; as a matter of fact, there was a lot of armor that looked great and had great stats, and the Jedi Robes weren't that bad either when I felt like making a change. But most of KotOR II I kept thinking about how to steal my partymembers' stuff... Most of the armor was ok, but I wanted to be able to use all the Force powers. So after getting out of that miner uniform I found the Zeison Sha (sp?) armor, and was all "weehoo doesn't restrict powers!", but then I spent most of the game looking like, to quote my brother, "An ancient Chinese warrior guy in a metal skirt." Then I wanted to try some robes, but they looked really awful on my character. Finally I found the Ossus robes and dealt with them.

As for the headgear... In KotOR I, I wore the blue Will +2 thing (sorry, I can't remeber the names... ), the transparent red visor Luxa had in KotOR II, and the Circlet of Saresh, and I was quite happy with it. But in KotOR II, I completely gave up on headgear, because all I could find were masks...

So you might think I'm a shallow valley girl, seeing how I only care about looking good in my armour. I'm not, really. I do care about the stats. But if there's one thing I can't stand, it's someone coming in, taking one look at the screen, and dropping dead of laughter when they see me in my Zeison thing. Not that I mind the armor design in the games. But I really didn't like the way KotOR II robes looked...

Yeah, I'm ranting. *sigh*

PS
Sorry about the 'valley girl' thing. I was at a loss for a better expression...

Yes, I agree that is an very good idea. KotOR sucks when it comes to customization, and sometimes you need to sacrifice stats only to look decent.

i now i said this loadz of times before but like in kotor 1 i like the armour with face coverings so id like to see a return of that i would have liked to have the sith assassin outfit on kotor 2 but u couldnt get that so thats what id like. Also the shop was a good idea at the begin, in stead of running around in no clothes like in the beginning of kotor 2.

This is just a shot in the dark but why not remove the armour stats and just use armour for looks.

They idea of changing the way the armour looks while keeping it's stats is a great idea cause most of the good armour looks ugly.

And how about armour that jedi can use force powers with (special jedi armour) like the armour obi won is wearing in chapter twenty one (i think) of the clone wars cartoon after they get they're new look.

they sort of had jedi armour in kotor 2 but i understand what you mean. as for armour with no stats, i like that. then just use the underlays and overlays to customise it and the different types of armour could influence which overlays/underlays you could use (i don't think i'd like it if a robe say could have the same protection as, say, heavy armour as its a bit unrealistic)

Yeah thats why i'd like the idea of having heavy armour that jedi can use there force powers with.

Another cool idea is mixing heavy armour and robes together that would look awsome in my opinion.

I didn't want to have force powers in all armour just special armour (that looks cool of course) armour that jedi use, a mix of robe and armour would be cool.

He#% why not give me the armour/robe of Lord Vader himself. Allso get the voice actor that did the film do the voice acting, complete vith the breathing apparatus sound and everything.
And please do not restrict it to the dark side, as i am a true servant of the light.

You could have Revan return after fighting the Sith, baldy mauled and in need of a lifesupporting cyborg stuff/thing armour. You get to custom make his outfit from the beginning.
Barely alive he starts the quest to regain his power and get upgrades for his armour.

Is it just me or is this a good idea ?

Why should Jedi robes (not armor, but robes) have any sort of protective advantage over regular clothes anyway? I mean, they are just robes... actually, if robes had the disadvantage of being essentially worthless for protection, I might have been more tempted to invest in the protective Force powers. I know the robes don't have a huge defense bonus, but the dexterity bonus more than made up for it anyway. It seems odd that I could dump my fully upgraded Echani Fiber armor for a Jedi Knights robe and somehow have a higher defense...

Maybe the Republic should have hired the Jedis' tailor to make their armor, then all of their soldiers would have been plenty protected against anything the Sith could throw at them.

By the way, I like the idea of being able to customize your clothing a bit more, especially the idea of having the upgrades being the part that really protects you and the rest just sort of being for appearance sake.

the reason you get higher defense with robes is because they allow the jedi to use all their skill to dodge blows rather than be limited movement wise (such as when wearing armour) so it makes sense to have the high dex bonus with robes.

I understand the reasoning behind it, I just fail to see why getting shot with a blaster (and it hitting me) does less damage to a guy wearing a bathrobe than it does to someone wearing full Mandalorian battle armour. If I dodged the attacks more frequently (and maybe I do) that's all fine and good, but when I actually get hit, it should hurt!

Also, why should my armour affect my Force using abilities? Is it made out of Ysalamiri (for those who haven't read any of the books, the Ysalamiri are creatures capable of making bubbles in the Force inside which the Force does not exist/can't be felt by a Jedi) hides? Now if it effcted my lightsaber skills it might make more sense...

Again, I grasp the reasoning - game wise at least - for this, it was just something that made me go "Hmmmmm" when I first played.

thats a good point, its is a bit stupid to think that a piece of cloth can stop a blaster bolt from killing you if it hits you square in the chest. i never understood the whole armour affecting force powers thing either, except certain ones like force speed which i can kinda understand, but why can't you use, say, force lightning when wearing light armour or even heavy armour? (unless they assume you'll electocute yourself lol)

If you could, I think it would be worth using Force Lightening just to electrocute yourself!
