What's Up W/ The Console Codes??????

For KOTOR 2 and 1 i've had trouble getting the console codes into play. The notepad doesnt recognize the Enable cheats=1 thingy, how does it work?????

there is not really any reason to even need to use cheat codes in my eyes. if you slap the game on easy a 5 year old can beat it, but that is just my opinion.
