Seeking defense-oriented character build!

Greets,

Now that this seemingly bug infested game has been given its "medication," I've decided at last to give Kotor2 a play-through. I don't know that any amount of treatment can alleviate the symptoms of a terribly disappointing ending (of which I am still blissfully unaware and should like to continue to be, thank you), but at least I won't have to contend with any gameplay-comes-to-a-screeching-halt design errors or missing dialogue.

Having said that, I'd like to get some advice as to how to go about creating a character. As with the original Kotor, I'd like to play through the first time as a light sider, and although the vast majority of the number-crunchers seem to prefer dual-wielding/double-bladed lightsabers, that just ain't my style.

I've done quite a bit of searching already, and though I haven't been able to find quite what I'm looking for, I understand that a strong defensive build is possible via the Handmaiden, whereby my Will stat modifier goes towards my defense. With that in mind, some starting stat recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I understand that skills are very important this time around for the purpose of creating items (which I would like to be able to do), and being smart enough to have good dialogue options available is a must. I've read a bit about a good consular/weapon master build, but details have been sketchy.

Could someone point me in the right direction?

It's pointless seeing as there is a cap on defence based on level. Perhaps the best direction towards making a defence oriented character is to get as much Energy damage reduction equipment as possible.

Based on level how? It would seem that many people have had success with these defense or "untouchable" builds, reaching somewhere in the 50-60 range. Is that only possible by exploiting bugs to reach level 50?

Probably, yes. One thing to remember when being defense-oriented, is being male. That way you get Handmaiden, and she gives you Battle Precognition which greatly boosts your defense later on. Use robes, since they don't limit DEX bonuses, and boost them with energy-resistance and defense bonus (if possible). Get Force Armor and Master Valor (yes, be LS) and Master Speed.
Boost DEX and WIS as much as possible. That's all there's to it.

a very important feat is the Toughness, advanced Toughness and master Toughness.

Altho, imho, defense is really flawed in this game because there is no way you can just stand there while seven or eight creeps wail on you.

Best way to go is to take em out hard and fast.

Thats right. In the original KOTOR I managed to create a char who was really hard to hit, although in the end it didn't make any difference since Malak can hit you no matter how much defence you get due to his attribute modifier and lightsaber. You see,in the first game you can only get a certain ammount on defence. In Kotor II though, creating a Sentinel and turning him into a Watchman or Assasin and taking advantage of Battle Precognition as well as using the best possible stuff can get defence really high. One moment though,do starting classes have a difference in defence?e.g does the sentinel get more defence by the Jedi Sense that the consular?

is armor out of the question?
i just started playing a consulor with with heavy armorfeat. he's got about 32 defense without buffs. and most of the neat darkside powers can be used with armor! which is cool cuz armor and dark side kindof go hand in hand imo
