Lightsaber/components ?

Guys - could someone explain how to upgrade cells/emitter/lens.
I see what skill is needed per component; # of components needed etc .... can I upgrade any part if I have the skill prerequisite/# of components, or do you have to have a part in a certain family.
Does that make sense :-)

I'll just pick one.........>
* expert fencing emitter = awareness 29 / 407 parts
Can I upgrade any emitter if a character has 29 awareness and I have 407 components in inventory, or do I have to have a fencing emitter in order to upgrade it to expert

I have the cell/emitter/lend I'd like, but not sure if I can amass that many components.
Plus, I'll have to make certain at least one party member has tge required skill level.
Plus, I can't always add them near a bench ?

Just want to know if it's worth the trouble or should I just use what I find/buy.
-----------
I just finished as Sith Lord, but now I'm going LS-Guardian-Weaponmaster ... I think getting the most out of my lightsaber will be key !!!

you don't upgrade them, you create an new, more powerful one. For example, if you meet hte pre-requisites for an expert fencing emitter, as long as you have enough parts (get these by breaking other items down) then you just click on it to make it then go to the upgrade screen and place the new emitter in your lightsaber.

It's definately better to make them in my opinion - I break down a lot more items than I sell as the items you can make on the workbench are a lot better than the ones you can buy (if you have enough skills)

mr_sir: thanks.
I've read on several FAQ, it is the main character Repair skill that determines the # of components. I've read on others, use the NPC with the highest Repair.
I'll use a cheat to see what's what :-)

As for creating, I'll use the person with that skill and see what happens ... after I get the required components

Trial and Error :-)

I'm doing LS backwards ... finishing Nar Shaadaa first to get Mira
Hoping to start relationship dialogue with all 3 ... Handmaiden/Visas/Mira

So far, all endings in KOTOR and KOTOR2 have been disappointing = too generic/short/no "how did these characters end up etc..."
Almost seems like, "why am I killing myself reading and choosing dialogue options when in the end, they really lead to nothing" ... just my take
Since the plot, character development are A+, I was expecting a detailed ending to match my dialogue choices. After 6 endings, none have lived up to the build up ?
