KOTOR 1 finished FULL LIGHT. Can it be done?


Hi guys I've been wondering if anyone has fully completed KOTOR I full light?

The Light side as been mentioned in the online walkthrough is a very hard path to follow. This is because most Dark side dialog ends with a fight gaining you much XP, where Light side does not. This results in your character becoming very weak and unable to "rise to the challenge".

And I've wondered if anyone here has actually completed the game, sticking to the Light path? All the way?? And if you have done this, what would your best advice be for those who wish to also accomplish this?

yep, i've done it both as full dark and full light. with light side the trick is to pick your force powers carefully and wear robes rather than armour. things like force speed and all the other protective powers can make battles so much easier. also, if you are finding stuff hard, take a jedi or two with you at all times and have them set on jedi support. they will buff you up with some force powers too. i actually found the star forge a lot easier as light side than dark side. its just a case of using the defensive powers to your advantage. as for xp, both times through the game i have been at level 20 a long time before the end of the game so xp is not an issue due to the xp cap.

yes i have done it. granted, i got mastery of the DS way before i even got to the first star map planet, but i thought the LS was more fun, tireing, but fun. here are some hints for you.

1 start your game up as a soilder. you get 10 vitality points each time you level up. its good to have, trust me

2 when you be come a jedi, go with counsalur(sp) instead of just getting one force power each time you level up, you get 1 more every other time you level up! so you get like 5-8 more force powers then you would if you were a gaudian.

3 cheat codes. i know its cheating (duh) but it makes the game a whole lot more fun AND easier. plus, you can add/subtract LS/DS points at will. So you could be a complete dark sider, and still fallow the path of the light.

4 if ur serious about the light side, you have to be super patient, and willing to walk - alot. and dont get attached to your credits. and if you can, get every quest possible, because they either turn out LS/DS

5 always save your game. i cannot reiterate this enough to some ppl. save save save. if you dont like how something turned out, go back and load your last game

thats all that i can remember now... i havent play it in awhile. i just got KotOR II so... yea. good luck.

I've done it numerous times, for both male and female Player Characters.

1. Most frequently, I've played through as a soldier/guardian. Less frequently, as a soldier/consular. I run with a 14 intelligence as a soldier/guardian and place the majority of my skill points in persuade, with any extra in treat injury and awarness, with that order of importance.

2. I play the PC version, so I take full advantage of Yavin Station. I would consider this to be the difference maker in successfully completing a full lightside game ending as often as I have. The Force/Guardian Lightsaber Crystals are powerful, not to mention some of the other equipment that Suvan Tan carries. The real advantage though is being able to get great prices on selling items after defeating Suvan Tan 10 consequtive times at pazaak, thus gaining his significant discount. This works on stuff you sell to him as well as stuff you buy. So I typically will clean out a planet, then go visit Yavin Station, sell my junk, rinse and repeat. Having credits really makes KotOR easier to win Lightside, especially since you can turn down cash opportunities in lieu of lightside points during conversations and quests.

3. I also find that using the force lightning shock line of Jedi powers to be way way overpowered. I use this power exclusively and also play in jedi robes. Even though lightside, the only penalty I've ever seen in using this power is simply the force points cost due to alignment. Not really a problem when you have 150-200 force points and 1-2 force storms kill everything. Especially if a melee/lightsaber specialist....two storms and two whacks and everything is dead. Stasis and Wave are also very powerful. Any power that effects groups of enemies or buffs you, really.
Master speed is also very sick--extra attacks...too sweeet.

4. I pay particular attention to attributes. I start off generally with:
St 12, Dex 12, Con 12, In 14, Wis 14, Cha 12. This gives me at least +1 in all categories and the important ones can be boosted with items. I typically put my additional points in Wisdom, mainly because force powers are so powerful....and healing is just too easy lightside. High Wisdom just does so much for you...resists enemy force powers, increases the effectiveness of your force powers, increase effects of treat injury skill, increases you force points pool....etc. etc.

5. For the final battle with Malak, I load up on Stims and Life Support Packs. That's why some points in treat injury are important. As is your wisdom modifier.

6. Another critical piece of equipment besides the Star Forge Robes near the end of the game is the Circlet of Saresh. +5 Wis is ridiculous and when you add it to the Star Forge Robes it throws your Wisdom into insane levels...mid 20's.....just sick. Add attibute points to this and it becomes.....

7. Finally and most obvious, is being extremely nice when talking to everyone. Refuse rewards at every opportunity and take on good deeds. Be so bubble-gum sweet that everyone's blood sugar goes up just looking at you. Perhaps that's why you glow so much....

8. I never had any trouble with XP. In every case, my character is level 20 long before I get to the star forge. You can farm xp in many places in the game....it is tedious, but there are some good areas. I have never really need to resort to this. Just follow Game Banshee's walkthough and you'll have more than enough xp.

9. I also stick to Jedi as my NPC support. Jedi are just so powerful with their force powers. As lightside, you save Juhani and she is probably one of your strongest Jedi. Add Bastila and Jolee and between these three you really don't need anyone else. After Dantooine, I typically go to Kash, then Tatooine, then Manaan, this way I get Jolee early. When I lose Bastila later, I go with Jolee and Juhani. No problems really. Partying is harder darkside because while you might keep Bastila, she's gimped and you kill the J's, so you are forced to go with other party members, like Canderous and HK-47, who aren't as strong as jedi, especially on the star forge, when endless waves of enemies are coming at you.

All these things seem to help me master & end the game fully lightside.

Ah... So people have done it eh? Thanks for all your help.

I also imagine you will have to spend that extra hour in the afternoon killing CPU's for extra XP for help but yeah, I think defesive powers are the way to go as most Sith do get the upper hand when they use powers such as Drain and Lightning.

How much harder would you rate it compaired to Dark side?

Oh, way to make me feel like a dork. Rofl.

I've played each KoToR through a good ten times, and I've -never- completed less than full light. Well, I did try and go totally neutral once or twice. But I've never gone dark side. I have a problem with random acts of violence.

So yea, it definetly can be done.

I play near full Light, or sorta on the Dark. I can't resist certian DS options like chopping down largo because he whines too much and wants to chisel me out of my hard pillaged credits. Or telling Nurik Sandral that his son is a Cath Hound chew toy.

If you play full Light, invest in buffering powers, and expect to be bothered by people hitting you up for credits. And the game will take longer because there will be a lot more conversations with the people that dark Siders normally tell to bug off. But you learn more of the story that way. Also, you take on more lengthy quests, often to revisit planets. As a dark Sider, there are several planets you are banned from due to your actions.

Light Side may be slightly easier due to some powerdul buffering force powers and robes, Dark Side carries certian handicaps with it too. You may be banned from returning to planets, and some Dark Side choices effect you on other planets as well.

Well guys, the mystery is solved... I have successfully completed KOTOR I no sweat full light.

The only real issue I had was when I fought Malak... But I beat him in the end.

Thanks for all your help and until now I thought full light was just somthing that was impossible.

A bit late, but for anyone else who's curious, I have never had any problem with completing the game full Light, and without using any DS Force Powers either.

It is true that you miss out on a lot of XP and most of the good items, not to mention the Trandoshan quests (I'm relieved that they corrected the imbalance for KOTOR2). But the fact that you have less XP shouldn't matter, as the opposition is scaled to your level. You could probably complete the whole game as level 3 if you wanted.

When I play LS, no DS Powers, I find it helpful to be something of a tank

1) Start as a Soldier, and go up to level 5 before you become a Jedi. The reason for this is that a Soldier gets a Feat every level, and you're going to need Feats like Flurry and Double Wield

2) Start with a CON and STR of at least 14; I tend to use 16. I don't bother with WIS or CHA at all when I play LS, and DEX most definitely stays at 8; as a melee weapon user, you have no use for it, and a slight increase in DEF isn't going to be worth much. INT isn't nearly as important in KOTOR as it is in KOTOR2; it seems not to affect how many skills points you get at level up, only at the start. Put your in-game increases into STR.

3) Use speed; it makes a huge different. Dual wielding, flurrying, and with speed you can make 5 saber attacks per round!

4) Make strength enhancement your priority for equipment, followed by CON enhancement.

Are you guys kidding me money is never an issue even with people begging for it left and right I find it alot harder to use the DS options (there are a few cool quests: bounty hunting on taris and manaan) but most of the time its pulling the proverbial wings of an insect. as for being powerful this game is too easy as it is as long as you put your stats according to your play style
the toughest guy I ever created was a maul-saber dark scout-guardian 5/15
18 str 16 in con. forget the the rest. evry point went to str I killed malak every time in 2 rounds. lightside is slightly weaker for melee because you get 3 to str instead of 1D8 for force mastery. If you want a powerfull light side build I recommend starting as a soldier or scout and go guardian. have 14 wisdom and emphasize str or dex, defense or offense you'll kick ass solo either way not to mention with a party. keep in mind that the less levels you have in the starting class the more you will have in the jedi class which is better.

Also @ Alcina you vastly underestimate dexterity have you tried putting 18 and at the start then +5 and doing 6/14 scoundrel/guardian with level 3 dueling and single saber ?? from a power playing perspective this build is not good but from a roleplaying perspective it is fun and you almost never get hit. it is viable and fun

light and dark

i like the light side personally i did both and the light side feels good. yoda got that saying stuck in my head.-Fear is the path to the dark side fear leads to anger anger leads to hate hate leads to suffering

I don't know what is so hard about getting full light/dark, just play the game and do everything to help and aid people and certainly not killing innocent.
