Can't wear Sand People Robes? Why?

I picked up sand people robes from some who attacked me. Now I want to use the clothes to sneak to their settlement. However I can't wear it? I don't meet requirements it says? I have light & medium armor skill. Do I need heavy armor to wear robes!? Or do I need to trigger something in the storyline?

Old, old, old problem. Do a search on robes in the KotoR forum, and you'll find at least 5 or 6 threads discussing various aspects of it, and good solutions. After you apply one, if it doesn't work, let us know, and we'll be glad to help out.

Sorry, I was quite worked up when I wrote my question so didn't think of a search However it seems I found out myself. I can't put the robes on inside the city. When I go to the desert outside the city I can put them on without problems..... Maybe a bug? Anyway I got into the Sand People camp and did my work.

IIRC you cant wear the robes inside the city. Scared townsfolk and all that. Not sure though.

It seems logical.

But after visiting the sand people encampment I lost the robes. I've been back again in my "normal" outfit and they didn't attack me. Now I'm back again for the second time, again they don't attack even though I'm in my normal outfit.

If you decided to help them out, then they remain neutral throughout. But should you insult them, all hell will break loose.
