Battle Meditation

My wife was asking me about this one, so I thought I'd see what the group thinks.

Regarding Bastila's Battle Mediation power that is a rare deal among Jedi.

Back when Timothy Zahn wrote the first post ROTJ books, there was the notion that the Rebellion won the Battle of Endor becuase the Emperor was killed. The idea was that, as a mighty Jedi master, he had the ability through force of will to keep the Imperial Forces at their most effective. Grand Admiral Thrawn then seeks out a dark Jedi Master to regain this influence and make the remnants of the Imperial Forces more effective.

I don't recall the term Battle Meditation ever being used to describe this in the books. However, it would be reasonable to assume that Thrawn simply would not know such a term, particularly if the Emperor were the only one alive with such a power.

So, I suppose my real question is this - is this power of the Emperor's that Thrawn describes the same power that Bastila has in KOTOR? Or does the concept of Battle Mediation come from some other part of the expanded universe of Star Wars. I've read most of the post ROTJ books up to the beginning of the New Jedi Order series (need to get caught up one of these days), but I'm not up to speed on things like the comics/graphic novels and some of the other games out there.

Hmmm... Makes a lot of sense. Joruus C'boath used a similar ability to coordinate Thrawn's troops. Man, Thrawn was a genius. Too bad he got wasted by those damn Noghri...

As far as I'm aware the term 'Battle Meditation' was taken from the D20 RPG, more specifically the Power of the Jedi Sourcebook. It's an actual feat, although judging by what the sourcebook says, I'd say the folks at BioWare probably exaggerated its importance a little bit.

I think too that there is a great deal of similarity between the BM and the emperor's and C'boath's skill to coordinate battles. Thought it is unknown whether Bastilla would be able to do it "transsystems" - that is coordinating battles taking place light years away on another (Palp&C'boath was able to do so).

?offTopic?
Thrawn was unmatched. It's a shame his story had to end the way it ended. He should have been at Endor...

Yeah, I think it's similar to Palpatine's/Joruus C'baoth's powers. It might also be similar to what happens near the end in the New Jedi Order series, where the Jedi strike team on Mykyr (Star by Star) form a Jedi mind meld, as it's called. The Jedi pilots with another Jedi coordinating it from a bridge also formed it during a space battle, but these examples are only from Jedi to Jedi.

It might also be similar to how ya'mmosks (war coordinators in NJO) telepathically coordinated all the Yu'zhaan Vong ships and pilots.
