Having a school age child at home effectively means that you are living with a walking, talking disease vector...
Every time my son catches some kind of bug at school I invariably come down with it. *sigh* Indeed, I have become convinced that children should be forced to pass through a Star Trek style decontamination chamber prior to entering the house..

Anyway, I am once again recovering from an unpleasant bug which has totally sapped me of anything even remotely resembling energy. And I know I am sick because I'm doing, or not doing, things I normally never do..

So, you know you are sick when:

1. The thought of coffee in the morning does not get you out of bed.

2. When you ignore the signs, have a taste of coffee anyway, and immediately feel like gagging. (When I'm healthy I'm an addict)

3. You need to sleep during the day.... for several hours at a stretch, and then you sleep for 9 hours straight at night. (I usually *never* sleep during the day, and I'm a light sleeper who is prone to insomnia)

4. You have a brand new gaming computer and don't have any interest in playing with it.

5. Your mother-in-law has done something vile and obnoxious again, and instead of feeling the usual blood lust, you simply roll over and go back to sleep.

More?

Wow you must be really sick...

6. GameBanshee seems less inviting than usual.

7. Your throat starts hurting like hell. Until sleeping becomes illusive.

8. Drugs, uh, I mean medicine seem welcoming all of a sudden.

people that are sick but don't go to work, tend to go to the library anyways..

I know when I worked for a school district in southern California for two years.... i learned my lessons. I didn't wash my hands/arms/body daily like I was in some sort of infectious disease ward because I didn't think much about it.... but after two months of being in charge of four different elementary schools... two middle schools and the highschool. I was for sure I had came down with the plague and was soon to not be one with this world.

It was horrific and I'm the type of kid who is used to being sick... for instance this morning I felt miserable. Funny that you would post his because the large pot of coffee that normally gets me going barely moved me. Now Im drinking it later in th day and stil... ehhh

Ah well, in preparation of the inevitable (head lice etc.) I've considered installing a high pressure hose outside. Sure I'd have to contend with my wife and numerous child welfare agencies but I really do believe that the pro's out way the cons in this particular matter.

@Thug

Hey man, how are you. Glad to hear that not even a bout of the old plague can keep you down.

Yeah... I think that along with making sure I take vitamin C, I'm going to have to become obsessive compulsive about hand washing.. Maybe every 30 minutes will help keep me safe?

Hmm... interesting about the coffee. I know quite a few people who can't tolerate it when they are sick. I sort of use it like a thermometer actually. If I can't tolerate the thought of the stuff, I know I'm coming down with something, and once I begin craving it again, I know I'm on the mend.

Good to see you btw, welcome back!

That is if your hands don't fall out first.

Or maybe it's just that it strikes a chord, with you in particular.

When I get sick, i want my parents to prepare *everything* for me. And I can eat some weird stuff when I'm ill. Case in point: Beef stew, chicken ramen noodles, reese's pbc blizzards. Yeah, I know. I'm weird...
