This is a non-US/English topic....and no weasel I know you want to but stay out
So people like before mentioned superspamer (that was a compliment ) and Mr.Sleep and so on not for you.
The reason for this is that I was wondering where people in here picked up their English skills. Most are pretty good at it and don't tell me that you learned in school because first of all you are not there most of the time, second when you are there 60% of the time is spend sleeping I know many people that are not as good at English who finished collage. So who? What? Were?

Well most of it comes from TV; music; computergames; books; internet.

But ofcourse here in Denmark we have (when I was in school) had english since I was 10-11 years old, plus in high school at higest possible level. Plus all but a couple of books at university was on english.

But that is the "price" of living in a small country like Denmark, you have to learn other languages.
German on the other hand, I've never taken a likeing to.
I want to learn french at some time, and brush up/learn more russian.

@Kid: I took russian in highschool because I wanted to combine it with an economical education - well that didn't work out (damned hard languange)
Also I took it to get away from german, and french, well that was boring at that time

I'm afraid my answer is school. Also, we have a very good radio language programmes (15 or 20 minutes everyday for many different levels), and I listened to them as often as possible. So, when I came to UK, I could speak good enough English.

Having said that, my English improved dramatically during the first 6 months here, and is still steadily improving.

Oh, I did Arabic at the University, which I only remember a few sentences. I speak Spanish a little, and want to improve it. But currently, I'm learning Italian.

I learned English when I was abducted by aliens. It was a trying time then, but they showed me some of the future. I just get the winning numbers for Lotto messed up with the right week everytime. Next time I get abducted, I will take a number two pencil and some post-it note pads.

In Sweden, everybody learn English in school from age 9. So did I, but I also started traveling a lot when I was around 15. I've always read English literature in English and I've lived in Britain for about 1 year. I've learnt a lot from various British friends.

My problem is I pick up every bl**dy accent in a few hours, I can't help it. When I lived in London, I pretty much spoke Queens English (probably because my boyfriend was a barrister and my best friend an actor, so I imitated them). Now, I speak some kind of pidgin English because I've worked for 4 years at an international lab where everybody speaks English but none is a native English speaker.

I know a little German, a little French and a little Russian. I plan to start a beginners course in Japanese in September. Also, I'd like to learn some Arabic.

The first time I really spoke English was when I meet my girlfriend that is english-speaking and now it is a second laung. writing that is a diffrent story
