Probably not, because if the war is going nuclear there is not really a lot of point as every country will get blown to pieces whether I go to war or not. I'd probably choose to spend time with my family and loved ones instead. On the other hand, if there was only a slim chance of it going nuclear but the threat was there, and the Eastern Civilisation had twisted policies and views on stuff (like Hitler's views etc.) and were doing indescribable/horrible things then I probably would go to war as I'd feel it was for the good of the majority of the world's population to do that. If the Eastern Civilisation was actually better than what was already going on in the country they invaded and I agreed with their way of doing stuff more than the 'lets blow everyone up til they do what we say' mentality of the Westernised countries then I wouldn't go to war.

If someone sent an army to invade my country? Yeah, I would kill those bastards. If someone started nuking my country? There's not a whole lot I can do. I can fight hand-to-hand, I don't dig guns or missiles. I don't drive, and don't fly planes. Furthermore, the US government would be more likely to draft toddlers than to draft me given my psychiatrict records. So, given that, when the recruits take their binkys to war, I'll join them.

Vastly different scenario from your first mentioned.

In that situation yes, because my country is attacked (or allies so to speak, meaning I'd join in on WW2 for instance, given if hypothetical circumstances would allow it)

However, there is little use for ground troops in a full scale nuclear war, because then it isn't about holding/liberating territories, but about destroying the opponents means of striking back. But I'd still try to do "my bit" so to speak.

Probably not...not because I think we're a screwed up country or I hate it or anything, but more as to I wouldn't last. I'm not physically built to survive more than a few hours out there......

Plus, I'm a pacifist, so it just wouldn't work....

I don't think I would fight for my country. I don't see the point in being proud of my country, for the reasons Phreddie quoted. On the other hand I might fight for my beliefs and friends. For instance if there was a dictator in my country I think I might want to do something about that. Since he is offending what I believe in and I'm personally involved. On the other hand, if some terrorist decided to bomb my country I don't think we can stop this by starting some holy war against terrorism, and I think I should be the one who is fighting that war.

I follow Magelord's view. In the case of defending (or 'defensive attack') I would sign myself up. I do definately have pride in Britain, and I'm proud to be British, and I would like to think I'd fight rather than see her fall.

Although with Siberys I do not know how capable I would be. Not physically, but mentally. According to military statistics, only 30% of trained soldiers shoot to kill - of that 30%, 98% suffer trauma in terms of nightmares etc afterwards. The 2% happy-shooters are psycopathic in some way. Gets you thinking, even if you signed up, could you really *fight* for your country?

I honestly don't think I would have a problem killing someone if I viewed it as a necessity. I got over the whole reluctance to do violence a long time ago. I got over the reluctance to break bones when simple violent reaction didn't work. I got over the thing of not hitting girls when doing my best to avoid a violent one didn't work.

I learned to trust my instincts when violence broke out, and if someone put me into a situation where there was a method of fatal violent action imminent around me, I would not hesitate to kill any threat near me. I've ended up coming damn close to it before with my bare hands, it would be far too easy with a weapon.

If those Canadians swept across the ambassador bridge and attacked Detroit I'd empty my bank account for some sort of high-power rifle, position myself in one of the many burnt out buildings and give 'em hell. I'm sorry I had to do that Mag (I guarantee it hurt me more than you) but I think it accurately conveys my aversion to fighting a war so old, rich white dudes can keep going to the bank.
