Wilson Pickett Dead at 64

http://music.msn.com/music/article.a...12827&GT1=7454

Just wanted to tip my hat to, in my opinion at least, was one of the greats. He was one of my favorite vocalists of all time, and has had his material covered by countless artists ranging from Creedence Clearwater to Robert Cray to Buddy Guy and beyond. I was saddened to hear that he'd passed on.

Oh my God! He was such a great singer, one of my favorite voices right up there with Aretha, Big Mama Thornton, Smokey Robinson and Otis Redding. Man, hats off to you Mr. Pickett. You helped define the sound of Stax and you will be missed. Rest In Peace sir.

More than just a singer, he was an excellent songwriter. He made the soul hits that plenty of white boys and girls turned into top 100 sellers. Mustang Sally remains among my all-time favorites.

True that. I've talked to people who had no idea who Wilson Pickett was beyond the guy who made Mustang Sally, but they were surprised to find that they knew a lot of his songs by other people or from movies like the Blues Brothers and such.

He was the inspiration for many people out there. This is sad, and those in the music industry might be taking it a little hard to lose one of their idols. I hope his music continues to inspire other artists for years to come.
