Why hide?

I've been thinking. Why don't people have their name in the active users box. Why do you hide?

Well, the question can also be asked other way around: Why should we?
Me, I'm invisible just because I sometimes just want to visit and check few things, not necessarely post. And there has been numerous times when I was still visible when I was contacted by different people when they saw my name on active users box...

Because they are albino monks and prefer not to be seen by the general populace.

But seriously, some people have good reasons, like Lestat, he's a vampire, so he doesn't like to draw attention to himself.

Anyway, it's just so people can lurk, to post without people knowing they are online, or because they don't necessarily spam, so people don't need to know they are online, or because they don't want to see invitations to spam when they are posting in other serious threads.

Hm, I never get such silly invitations... Apparently they do something wrong which I do right.

No-one ever bothered to invite me either...
Bah. Such appreciation....

I only really bother to go into Invisible Mode if I know I'm going to be busy for a while and I'm unsure how much I'll be around....though I want to keep the GB tab open on my browser.

This is my homepage. I got sick of getting IM's, PM's and coming back to posts of "why is Mag ignoring us?!" when I logged on to check mail or something before heading out somewhere, so I shut it off. I have a life, and even if it were hanging outside my window shouting at birds, it gives me something to do besides acknowledge every message I have come at me online, so, it seemed the best way to avoid that. This way, if I am around, you see me when I am posting. If not, I can load my browser and do what I need to without being hassled.

Sometimes I like to browse threads without being actively involved. Also, my inbox is usually close to overflowing, so I try to avoid invites to join threads and so on, which happens when I am visible.

Do mean as in. "I am blind" or "I'm bored so I will randomly say I can't see" ?

Considering that surveillance and tracking of everybody everywhere is abundant, it's nice to have someplace you can hang out without leaving any tracks casually viewable by your friendly neighbourhood stasi collaborator.

Invites? Meh, I generally don't get invites. I suppose if I stopped showing up so often to ramble I might. Then again, if I stop showing up again, I might end up with some protype SYMian hover-drone searching for me.

We should abandon them to their own fates for a while to teach them not to invite us!
Though I suppose my Inbox is better for it...
