Because they survived the transport best

Moroccan oranges are the best in the world IMO ...especially if you go to Morocco and eat them And they don't have especially think skin.

Just wondering cause my marmelade recipe says "choose oranges with a thick skin which are very dense for sweetness".

Back to the kitchen.

what about lychees they have tough thick skin and there is a massive stone in the middle so you dont get much actual fruit

Thick skined oranges are the best because you had to work the hardest to eat the fruit.

Yes, oranges are wonderful... just piercing into the thick crest with your fingernails and working to pry off the outer shell to receive the torn-up juicy middle... removing the stem that makes you choke and removing the seeds... then you look at the blob of hairy orange mass that once was on orange, and suddenly lose your appetite...

That's why I'd prefer to just cut up the orange and munch it like a watermelon. Yum.
